Hey everyone, i'm new to these forums. I used to be a regular county and tournament player growing up, and this fine forum and website has revived my interest in the great game (still only 21 btw!).

I am looking for a new racquet, i used to play with a head radical, then not long before i stopped i was playing a wilson pro staff classic. I was always a fan of my mates fischer pro number one, so i was considering getting hold of the new one. However it seems they have 3 versions of it these days!

Can anyone tell me the differences between the:

Fischer Pro Number One
Fischer Pro Number One FT
Fischer Pro Number One Impact FT

Also any other racquet recommendations? I am consdering the babolat pure drive plus, wilson ncode tour 90, and i'd like to test a few Volkl racquets as i've never tried one!

Sorry for all the questions.

Just thought i should add some information on my play style. I'm a pretty typical baseliner, my trips to the net are rare! Have a good forehand, 2 handed backhand, solid serve. So recommendations for any good baseliner racquets appreciated (plus my fischer questions). Cheers.

of the 3 Fischers you list, the Pro1 is the classic of the lot, and is the least demanding and most popular..i would recommend it also for baseline play. the other two are very demanding frames..low powered and small sweetspots as compared to the Pro1. if you can handle the swingweight, from the Volkl line I am suggesting the T10MP V-Engine for baseline play..it hits a nice heavy ball from the back, but is good at everything

To be frank, you're looking at a varied lot of racquets. Now, this makes perfect sense to me and I often do the same thing but some will tell you to narrow your focus. Of the racquets you mentioned, I would recommend the PD +. Its only real weakness (if you accept the occasional crazy shot for no good reason) is volleying, and if you play mostly in the backcourt, you shouldn't have a problem. The Fischer Pro 1 (I have only hit the 320g but you might be able to hit the 330g in the UK) is great *BUT* the sweetspot is fairly small for a 98 sq. in. head and the feel just isn't there if you miss the sweetspot. The Pro 1 FT is a good S&V weapon but that racquet felt like it got pushed around by my opponent's pace (though not as badly as with the Prince Tour Diablo MP). The Pro 1 Impact FT (assuming it is only a renaming of the Pro Impact FT, though TW's measurements are indeed different) is a fantastic racquet but it also has a smallish sweetspot and it is not stable at all if you miss the sweetspot. Though I loved almost everything about that racquet, I finally had to give up on it because I was getting killed at net on fast volley exchanges. If I didn't make good square contact with the ball, it would lose all pace and tended to float up, which was like steak dinner for my opponent.

Thanks for the break down. I live in the UK, and i'm pretty sure a club fairly near me supplies Volkl racquets. However it seems Fischer racquets have disapeared from the UK! Does anyone know where i can find a UK Fischer dealer?

We posted at the same time there... I'm demoing the PD+ at the moment, i do quite like it, but i haven't got much of a point of reference as i don't have my old pro staff or other racquets with me, so i need to demo so more racquets.

Never really considered the sweetspot on the old pro 1 to be small, always found it a solid and comfortable hit. Do you have any thoughts on the ncode tour or the RDX500? (Another i'm considering!)

the X-1 is right in that Pro No. 1 spec range...did a review of it a few days ago, it really is a sweet frame all around. Although you'd have to add a little lead to the head to get it to be a pure baseliner's stick IMO.

Interesting, i have never liked slazenger at all, i don't even know why, just one of those things. I will have a look at it, thanks.

I don't particularly like the babolat all the much, but for a pure baseliner it should be close to perfect. The nCode 90 is a bit to heavy for me, and in fact I have one, but it was a very nice performing stick all around.
