Fixes for Yonex buttcap?

I love my new Yonex Ezone 98 but hate the flat buttcap. What's a good way to make it more like a Head style buttcap?

-ive been doing what Gasquet does!!, "the Gasquet bump"
-wrapping material (various options: leather/tape/overgrip/s) around the end of the buttcap for some added flare, and taping it down with electrical tape!
-youll need to judge for yourself as to how many turn/s ,(thick) is enough for you

Just wrap something around to make it flare exactly how you want it. The secret pro overgrip method may be enough or you might need a extra round or two.

I switched to this method and really like it. Takes a little while to get the hang of it, but totally worth it.

What I dont like about it is that the flare is too wide, so I adjusted that I dont fold the overgrip in half anymore, but rather 1:4. Also helps with reducing wrinkles in the first wraps

I will try that. Is it harder to get started? Holding the fold is the tougher part and being a .25 might make it harder.

Thanks everyone. I love Yonex frames, but their buttcap and grips are the worst and haven't changed for 15 years (probably more). Guess they just want to torment us with flat buttcaps and cheap, thin grips.

If anyone is looking to offload their yonex 4 3/8 butt caps please send them to me!

OP if you want more flare you can fold an over grip in half and double wrap it at the butt then flatten it out to regular wrapping off the butt on the handle.

I use athletic or climbing tape on the buttcap under the grip. Easy to customize by adding/subtracting layers of tape. The overgrip method works fine, but I like the flare to feel as firm as the rest of the grip.

As mentioned, I quite like this method as it can be tailored for a smooth slope from flared to normal circumferences.

great idea to use two different levels of tape to make a nice tapered flare. If I didn’t have a spare buttcap lying around, I would have gone that route.

Someone in other forum try the wilson buttcap and work just as good and you can alwaus put your yonex green cap on the new buttcap. It will look clean and might be what you're looking for. I switched to Wilson for the same issue, really unconfortable but the vcore pro was a great racquet, by the time I read this info I already sold my pair of vcores. Hope this helps or at least try

That was likely me:

I also did it with a Pacific butt cap:

In both cases I used a 4 1/2" butt cap on a 4 3/8" handle to give it that 'extra' flare. I preferred the Pacific, so I've stuck with it.

I've tried all of the other suggestions here, and while they get the job done, they all end up adding tail weight (the Power Cap adds ~ 6-7g, depending on how you trim it). Swapping the butt cap, there is barely any difference.

Great advise! It was late for me but still a great fix to create that flare in the yonex handle. Thanks a lot

Why not cut a TW full size shrink tube into sections and shrink a larger flare using 1 or 2 or 3 shrink tube pieces. I don't know what the final tail weight might be but if one leaves only an 1" or so of shrink wrap butt flare, how much could it weigh? Some thin super glue to fix the layers maybe.

Very simple fix - Double wrap the base grip on the starting loop at buttcap.

For even more flare double wrap the overgrip on first loop too.

I have used this method on my tour 97s. I used the heat shrink to flare the but cap, then I put a full heat shrink over the to take the grip up to a 1/2 form a 3/8.

I'm going to do the same flare on my 1/2, VCore 98+ frames.

I had this on some prince response 97s I gat a cpl of years back a found it the most comfortable way for me. I use leather grips too, and I then to wrap and extra layer of this at the but before moving up the grip as well.

Anyone know if the Wilson Non-Pro Staff Red Cap or Wilson Triad Red Cap will fit the Yonex pallet? The Pro Staff butt cap just don’t seem to be available in L3 or L4. Ideally I’d like a black cap, any other alternatives?

Thanks!

They should. I swapped all my EZone DR to the Wilson non Pro Staff caps back in the day

The way i got around this issue was to put a couple of layer of heat shrink just on the but cap itself the trimmed the excess away, this gave a really nice size increase with a minimum of fuss
