Hello everyone.

Are there any instructions or threads on how to flare the bottom part of the grip on a tennis racket?

Thanks in advance

I'm sure they are on here somewhere, but the easiest way to remove the grip and wrap tape around the butt cap. Some people use medical tape, but I've heard of using electrical tape and duct tape as well.

Be careful though because it will affect your racquet balance if you add too much weight. That is the reason that most people use medical tape as it is lighter than the others I suggested.

Thank you Toby for the prompt response.

You can do what Gasquet does, wrap the grip around the butt a few times then wrap the over grip around the butt about 4 times.

I use leather from old grips. Cut the leather to the shape of each side of the buttcap and use double-sided tape. This adds about three grams, I think.

Medical tape for me. Easy to play around with the desired thickness, just add more or remove some. Never had a problem with it moving around.

I absolutely abhor racquets with a non-flared butt-cap. Looking at you, Wilson!

I take an old grip and fold it in half lengthwise and then wrap it around the base of the handle. It works and keeps the weight down...

Unique Sports, the makers of Tournagrip, have a product called the Power Cap that can be used to flare the bottom of the grip. You can google for more information.

I use an old overgrip piece about 1/4 the length of the full one.
Feels very secure in my hands now.
Just that there is a tender area of the bottom of my palm.

I take an extra unused piece of a replacement grip (you only need about 4.5").
I then cut a strip about .25" wide and I wrap that around the base of the grip.
I put it over the original grip and then use overgrip on top as normal.
