At slams only USO 03 and AO 04 and Wim 04 could be said to be par for Roddick. That is 3.

Murray played like a feather compared to 2012ray at Wim/Oly agressiveness wise.

So Murray didn't play as well as his two best tournaments on grass and Roddick was also not playing as well as his best tournament on grass? So? :p

I think Roddick was better at the USO in 2007 as well BTW, he just ran into Federer in the QF - the USO 2004 until he choked was up there too :(

But the choke in USO 04 happened though. Federer Wim 2015 and USO 2015 runs to the final was like in his top 3 runs to the final but the final changes that and makes Federer fans often barely rank it the top 10 runs at both events a.....

USO 07 Roddick never broke though and never got a set even though he was strong for a chunk of the first 2 and a half sets so not so sure about that.

The top part was only me baiting tbh as you know.

Don't think either Wim 15 or USO 15 were top 3 runs before the final though. Don't think even pre final he takes out any Fed from 03-09 at Wimby or 04-09 at the USO.

Fed played one of his GOAT USO matches in that QF IMO.

Winning a matchup vs a younger version or not is a bit of a different story.....
Probably not at Wimby on 2nd thought but maybe at the USO.

Fed was great in the USO 07 QF not sure if he was by enough to excuse a near win to a straight set loss but whatever anyways.

Better match than any Nadal has played at the USO

I guess if he played him on a bad day but don't think 2015 Fed takes out any Fed from 2004-2009 in say the QF-SF onwards, which is what counts most.

Federer best perfs. Fed is a better faster court player than Nadal so maybe but i bet that can be somewhat debated.

I am not one for matching up players against younger versions of themselves. But if 2015 Fed had all those BP chances he made vs Djokovic he would be in with a shot because i doubt Fed would save so many but then again he might not allow so many.

I don't think Fed would get that many against his better versions IMO. Djokovic was passive but solid and Fed gave him the errors in that final.

Karlovic is 4-2 against Hewitt. Not a good matchup for Lleyton.

And both of Lleyton's wins were tight:

-2009 French Open win from 2 sets down (won a tiebreaker in the third set tiebreaker to stay in it) when Ivo clocked 55 aces; and
-2014 Newport final win in a third set tiebreaker

I had been in Honduras for a week (no TV/computer) and flew back into the US the day after this match. I bought a newspaper from an airport kiosk to check the scores and was floored.

Dr. Ivo is one of my favorite players now, but at the time I couldn’t believe this unknown giant had taken down Hewitt.

Fed made 54 errors in the final according to stats he has made more in forms he was supposedly better his ablity on BPs has been and handicap for much of his career. Maybe the first part is correct.

The list of matches in that period where Fed hit 54 errors will be very short. Even against a great defender that would be a lot in a HC match for peak Fed...

It just wasn't a great match from him.

He played good to very good. Not so sure about great . He made 33 in the USO 08 final against Murray in a far easier match. In 2007 vs Djokovic made 34 as well in a far easier match with less points.

Bit windy in 2007 iirc. Also 20 less UE's is very substantial even in a shorter match. Need to see it as a percentage of points played.

Would back both those Federer's easily over 2015....

And sure he played very well for general standards but not for his own best from a decade prior.

You kreep trying to compare 2015 Fed being better of worse to younger versions Federer best forums USO overrated in these fantasy matchups anyway.

34 errors 222 points played in USO 07 error in 6.53% of total points
54 errors in 302 points played in USO 15 error in 5.59% of total points

Of course in 07 he hit a higher rate of winners but against a worse defender and he was clutcher in 07 and moved better as we know.

You called them top 3 runs before the final, you basically threw down the gauntlet yourself...

Now adjust for the windier conditions in 2007 :p
