Thought Nick had a right good crack at it - shame he was hurting. He'll be back - really like this kid.

The complete lack of effort at times (eg, the no footwork forehand on the second last point) that presented Murray with a sitter makes it hard to take the "elbow injury" seriously. Kyrgios doesn't look like a guy in pain.

Poor attitude by Kyrgios. He couldn't wait to get it done with judging by that last service game.

I'm not convinced this is a guy who's a future super star. He may just be another Gulbis for all we know.

He's got the talent, but I'm not sure he has the drive, motivation and stamina. Djokovic, Nadal and Federer showed better attitude at his age (on/off court), even though they obviously weren't as mature as they are today.

Okay, Gulbis may be a little harsh judging from his GS results so far. But maybe another Tomic... or Monfils?

Not buying that.

Neither Nadal or Fed have dropped a set in there matches (3 for fed, 2 for nadal). Murray had dropped one

Have you seen the quality of players they have faced so far ?

Murray dropped a set to #44 Sousa, whereas Nadal is yet to face a top 150 player and won't face a top 100 player till the QF. No comparison at all.

First serve speed was well down mate - Murray himself just said he noticed it at the end of the first set.

His serve speed was way down...but he did not look like a guy in pain. Pain normally is shown in facial expression. He looked like a guy who dropped his serve speed because he was unwilling to go through pain.

Yeah Granollers against Fed. Who was in the top 30 like 3 months ago. And is in the top 60.
And let's not forget Nadal loves RG. It's not surprise he hasn't dropped a set and saying Kyrgios probably could have is daft

I've already said this a number of times, Kyrgios is just another servebot+ball basher who can't even deal with BH slices from his opponents (Robredo showed us that in the US Open) and now Murray is just toying with him LOL.

I agree, and Nick is a fame *****, he obviously likes all the attention he gets off the court and IMO he enjoys it so much that he is more interested in being a headline grabbing "celebrity" than a tennis player.

I still think he will snag a slam later in his career just not now.
Kokki is gonna surpass all of them hes hunger just like boric

I didn't watch the match, but it's the result I expected. Murray is by far Kyrgios's worst matchup in the top four, and clay is his worst surface. Murray is just too good right now, but I can see Kyrgios playing some damn fine tennis if he gets his head screwed on right.

... or Monfils?
You've got my vote.

Disappointing effort. No fight. After the 1st set he was done as long as Murray didn't injure himself. To be a serious threat he's got to learn to fight.

Having said that, credit to Murray; really threw Kyrgios off with the droppers, served well, return and BH were awesome as usual.

He was injured and couldn't even serve properly after the 1st set. He knew he didn't stand a chance without his big 1st serve. You can't draw too many conclusions about his fighting abilities based on this match.

Kyrgios is going to talent his way to a slam or two, but I can't see him ever becoming a true legend or superstar of the game with his mentality. I understand he wasn't 100% today but I just don't see that laser focus on winning that was so clear with Nadal, Djokovic, etc.

I know it's shocking - but Sock is in the 30's - and moving up. If you haven't watched him recently he's improved his BH and gets more serves back in play than 6 mo/1 yr ago.

He's always injured. He took time off between Wimbledon and the US Open last year. During his opening round match at the US Open he would alternatively be nursing leg and arm injuries, and during parts of the match when he was playing badly yelled out "What am I doing here" and "Why am I playing." His season ended shortly after the US Open due to injury/burn out. He played the Australian Open, then sat out a couple of months due to injury. He returned and played a couple of tournaments, then defaulted in Nice due to injury. He then played the French, but couldn't serve properly due to injury. I remember legendary English cricketer Ian Botham deriding an English player who was always injured by saying "This guy seriously needs to work on his pain tolerance. That's if he's got one." Dealing with pain is a big part of being a successful athlete.

I think Kyrgios is more like a more talented but less committed Raonic. Ever since I saw Kyrgios play in person in the 2nd round of the 2014 U.S. Open (beat Andreas Seppi), I've thought Kyrgios doesn't have enough of a return game to be true top player (i.e. top 5 or multi-Grand Slam champion).

Jeff Sackmann just published an interesting article on his Heavy Topspin blog about Kyrgios' mediocre return game. Here's the link:
