Foam to reduce vibrations and sounds

Hi
Has anybody here tried to inject some kind of foam into a frame.
I mean not only in the handle but into the entire frame ?

If so could you please explain how to get the foam all the way to the hoop without the foam expanding and cracking the frame.

I have some hollow frames that need to be customized so I need input?

Remark: I do not need info regarding silicone in the handle!

I have foamed a couple of my racquets. I used a foam gun but I think you can use a can of Great Stuff brand foam. I ran two small diameter tubes up through the handle after taking the butt cap off and tried to get one on each side of the frame. Then just squirt in the foam. Try to keep injecting the foam until it comes out at the top of the racquet through the grommets. then pull the tubes back and fill all the way down the handle. If you do it without the grommets in place you can inject it through the grommet holes. Place tape on the inside of the frame and squirt away. There will be a lot of clean-up as the foam will leak out all over and you will have to drill out your grommet holes. Let it sit and cure for 24 hours before you start cleaning up.

Did the foaming meet your expectations? I imagine that it is a non-reversible process. On a positive note, the foam is so light that the change in weight/balance was likely imperceptible.

hey, no need for name callin, "imperceptible".. hahaha
just kidding

what i want to know, is how it turned out??
i never got to try this myself, but thought about it on a cheap walmart aluminum racquet.. i ended up doing a paint job onit instead with my favrite soccer team logo.. haha
did you like the racquet and the way it hit after?

Hi thanks for the good info!
I have a similar gameplan..

How did the racket feel afterwards and how much weight did it gain?

I never checked out the weight. I did it as an experiment to help my tennis elbow. It damped the vibration quite a bit. The racquet has a firm yet quieter sound and feel. The last one I did it to was a Dunlop 200 biomemmetic lite. I liked the racquet much more after the foam job. When other people hit with it they could notice the difference. After a few months I purchased a Yonex vcore tour 97 and that racquet does not need foam and I like it better than my 200.

If you are trying to reduce vibes it may be better to try plastidip. At least its reversible! It does work fairly well.

Agreed! I've plastidipped a couple frames and it makes a largely noticeable difference in felt-vibrations.

Did you use the aerosol spray? How did you apply it? I'm actually thinking about adding 4 grams of silicon inside the handle to help counterbalance weight I added to the head and also absorb vibrations at the same time. Plasti Dip sounds like it would work perfectly. I'm wondering if I would have to spray several coats inside the handle to get to the desired weight I'm looking for. I would imagine you wouldn't be able to get the Plasti Dip out if you ever decided to do so. So I don't want to make any kind of mistake.

Well I stripped down the frame to the bare bones (no grip, grommets or bumpers) and did about 4-5 coats over the entire thing (leaving about an hour between each coat?) I would never spray plastidip inside the handle. I usually use silicone in the handle of my frames.

I tried the liquid kind in a handle and don't do that!

Pretty sure it would take at least a year to dry if it ever did.
