First let me say this to you guys.
My coaching philosophy has changed on this matchplay tip.
I used to teach my players to focus on the end results before matches and then get in the RIGHT training before their matches.
But.
Now, I try to stress to them.
"To focus on their performance and not the results".
Why?
Because if they focus on their performance and compete consistently at a high level for the whole match, the results will take care of themselves.
The other thing is...
I have seen many players winning matches and then they start thinking about the end results and lose their focus and end up losing the match!!
This happens all the time... and the reason is simple.
The player started focusing on the end results too much and lost focus on peforming to the end of the match!!
Now here is a cool matchplay tip you should try out as soon as you can.
Before practice, get by yourself and focus on your breath until your thoughts calm down.
When they do.
Start mentally picturing how you want to perform at practice that day, see yourself playing at your best and generate the feelings to go along with the pictures.
If this is difficult for you, you need to get off social media for a while and meditate more, because this is all about learning how to concentrate better.
As a competitive tennis player, to successfully pre-program yourself before matches, you should know that all mental picturing, requires concentration skills.
Anyway.
After you do this mental rehearsing for 15 to 20 minutes.
Take those same mental pictures and feelings with you to practice and make sure that you don't force things out there, the goal is to get in the flow and adopt a non-resistance attitude towards anything that does happen on the court.
Just focus on performing up to the mental pictures that you created before practice and keep making the needed adjustments during practice.
I know, many of you on this site won't get this tip here, but for you other members, who are serious about taking your matchplay game to another level.
Write this down.
"The world-class players know that they actually win their matches in practice".
And this is why this post can turn your whole career around in months.
You see.
All players will always perform in their matches, up to the mental picture that they have create for themselves in practice.
So until you change the pictures that you have of your matchplay game in practice, your performance won't improve in your matches!!
Doesn't that make sense!!!
Of course it does!!!
