Following on gut main/poly crosses?

So these are the strings that I can currently find in either reel or set on my desk: tri-blade, x-code, tonic, beast xp17, barbwire, bgu, and alu rough. I love bgu in a full poly bed, but I'm willing to try this new set up to get more spin and such. Evidently, the tonic would be the mains, but for the crosses, I was leaning towards barbwire or bgu. What do you guys think would play out best?

I'd suggest using a non-textured poly cross. BGU or Barbwire seem like they will destroy your gut mains in a couple hours if not less. But, BGU or BW in the mains with gut cross could be fun.

I have an 18x20 racquet and I tend to cut my strings out after say 10-14 hrs on a good string. The only time I let it break is when I use multis which usually take about 20 hrs.
And I'm not sure about the poly main/gut cross. I've tried pht/vs 17 like that for a few sets and it wasn't phenomenal compared to a regular full set of pht.

I agree with JT_2eighty. Much more durability of the gut when using a non-textured poly. It means that you could use a smaller guage gut which would give you back the spin plus more playability anyway.

It is my opinion only, but unless you are sponsored, only use smooth polys with gut. Otherwise, use textured polys in a full bed only. It's the only way to be cost effective. You don't want to be spending $$$ on string each time you play.

Lets say cost and durability is the least of any concerns. All I want is the best set up possible with these choices

Tonic Mains with Alu Rough or Barb Wire Crosses. Performance will be great for a small period, and durability will be poor...

Well, with durability aside, what are you looking for? Still, a textured cross string won't be any more effective than a non-textured one. And, based on your inventory, might as well try what you already like, bgu, in the crosses. I have a feeling this may be one setup that will not be better for spin, as bgu sounds to already be a spin-machine made for a full bed.

My ultimate goal would be to have a set up that plays exactly like barbwire but lasts longer (tension wise). I'm hoping gut would do this or something similar
