I know, I know, Fonseca hasn't achieved much yet but he probably will. His forehand, though, already has the quality of an ATG forehand especially on clay where he dominates with the brutal force of the shot.

I went through every match that Fonseca played last year and he excells in all aspects of the forehand: power, speed, angles, on the run etc. There's not a single forehand shot that he can't manage to hit. But like I said, his forehand is mostly suited to clay and hard court. On grass he won't generate the same results off his forehand from what I've seen but that can obviously change.

How good is Fonseca's forehand already?

Discuss.

Nahhhhh not just yet. He has potential to get there but it’s too unrefined at the moment.
With more refinement he has a shot at having a GOAT forehand.
That shot is different, man. The amount of times players try to reach for the ball and miss it by split seconds, or when it lands on their feet and they miss it. It's like that one Blake return of serve, but over and over again. And his backhand is Gulbis tier + with the possibility of achieving Djokovic/Nishikori tier. This is unprecedented in tennis history.

I know people talk about his forehand, but his backhand really impresses me. It looks like he is loading a one hander and he gets clean power.

I'm all aboard the Fonseca train. I think he is going to be the player I root for for the next however many years but I do think there's serious concerns about his stroke lengths off both wings. I think there's a very real chance he never achieves nearly the same heights off clay that he does on clay.

I was gonna say no but he just anleashed another remote controled ballistic missile against cerundolo for a winner

Tough really. I chose Alcaraz because I think he is able to apply his stroke in more situations than Sinner, but Sinners probably has more consistent neutral ball weight. Needs to check stats on that though.

Love how he hits through it, it’s a real cruise missile with an ideal blend of spin and penetration. I think Sinner’s forehand is the most reliably damaging because it’s more compact, and Alcaraz’s is the most dynamic with how he mixes up spin pace and height, and most damaging given time on the ball, but Fonseca could surpass him on that last front.

Federer should coach him and exploit all his immense potential.
:)

With the fundamental in question he doesn't yet have the variety of Alcaraz or the tolerance of Sinner, but in terms of generating speed and power with the forehand even on "dead" balls, he already has nothing to envy of both.

However, if the comparison is at the same age, I don't know if his current forehand can be considered at the level or even better than the 2022 Alcaraz, but it is certainly better than that of the 2020 Sinner.

Fonseca is waiting for Sinner in Rome to give him a good shake-up.
:p

Regarding the survey.
There are great truths, and then there are the numbers that never lie;

I think he has one of the best forehands in the world right now along with people like Sinner, Alcaraz, Ruud, and maybe Rublev

Yes, my current emotional state now that you have reminded me that Sinner could face Fonseca in Rome is precisely this;

I'll get contaminated with a bit of Trafordemin, so that when I acquire super powers, maybe my fear will go away.

did anyone expect this guy to be so good so quickly? obviously there's the long road ahead, but Sinner, Alcaraz, and Fonseca as the new big 3 sounds pretty sweet. and if the other two don't watch out, Fonseca might end up with the best career out of all of them

*knock on wood* not trying to jinx the young man at all

It cracks me up that there are uninformed people who try to put this Bre Lon dude in the same sentence
as Michael Jordan.. [ok, children..]

Forehand looking pretty GOAT-y here:............
Yah, man it's a beauty, and he's just starting. Sure, he displays great skills but his demeanour / composure is very impressive too. He was feeling a tad off kilter in the sf and came through. Wobbled in the 2nd set in the final, only to re-group. All else being equal, he will likely consolidate his skills and emotional intelligence. What a welcome addition to the tour.

I agree on Fonseca's composure in particular. That's a rare quality so early in a career.. Michael Jordan had it too, to good effect..

Why won’t his FH generate results on grass?
