It would also have the added benefits of reducing the advantage a tall player has with serving, and it would reduce the potency of the serve.
What? How? Tall people remain tall when not jumping, and generally speaking they do a worse job of lifting off than people shorter than them.

On the subject, I'd argue that most foot faulters have a foot on the ground when making contact anyway. In my experience there aren't a lot of players who slide forward six inches then properly push off.
