For all the talks of Alcaraz, Djokovic and whatnot, let's all be happy for Thiem

The guy won his first ever slam match at this year's USO 1R since that hard fought comeback win against Nick Kyrgios at the 3R of AO 2021.

Since then, he had suffered 5 straight 1R losses at slams, including a hard fought 5 setter against Tsitsipas at Wimbledon this year.

Finally, he has broken this streak and has beaten Alexander Bublik, who was seeded 25th for this year's USO. 63 62 64, a big win for the Austrian considering what has happened in the last 3 1/2 years.

I'm truly happy for Domi, and hope he makes a decent run here.

Was really happy to see him happy actually. He has such a good diposition, but the last several month, you could see it weighing on him with the losses. Hoping he can find a decent groove to win some and lose some to finish out his career. He still is out doing a lot of good things to promote tennis and different causes.

While his best days are indeed past him, he does have the potential to mount a solid comeback, similar to that of Delpo's from late-2016 onwards. Here's me hoping that Thiem keeps playing good while being injury free, and most importantly, happy.

Finally, a TW thread that I approve of.

It looks like he's getting his game back. It'll be good for the sport (and some competition against The Big 2) for Thiem to return to form. Also, an easy guy to root for that plays an entertaining brand of tennis. I'm on The Thiem Team.

Funny how relentlessly positive and cheerful these Thiem threads are

And then Andy Murray wins a match and half the replies are how he should retire and stop stealing wild cards that he's only getting because he used to be good

Those people are unable to digest the fact that Murray is still amongst the top3 largest crowd pullers for tournaments.

He beat that same person twice in a grand slam final. There’s your animosity :D

I am happy for him. Besides Medvedev and now Alcaraz, he’s one younger player that could’ve beaten Djokovic at the slams (and did). Deserves to make at least a top 20 comeback.

So so happy for Domi! It's been long awaited, and I hope he can eventually regain some of the form that saw him being as successful as he was a few years ago
