For Fed fans: When Federer retires, who will you support then?

I know i know we would be all shocked and depressed and some may not want to watch tennis anymore but still i just want to know that if Fed fans can still watch tennis without him playing anymore, who would be the one that you support?

I currently support all players under 25 - when they don't play Hewitt or Federer. Will continue to support anyone from the next generation out of desperation.

I'll continue to support players I find entertaining like Wawrinka, Fognini, Monfils, Tsonga etc...Del Potro if he comes back strong will be near the top of the list.

I don't know. Unfortunately nobody is catching my eye as of now. All I know is that I'll continue to watch tennis because Federer essentially made me a fan of the sport in the first place, but it might be a while before a player comes along that I like as much as Federer. That sparks my interest and makes me really want to watch his matches. That makes me want to get up at 5:00 in the morning when the AO is on TV. I don't think there will ever be another player exactly like Federer though, but he might be close enough or have other skills that attract me to his game.

Wawrinka, Ferrer and Nadal. I don't usually support Nadal but when Federer retire he will probably be a challenger and I like to root for challengers. As all of them are old I should find a young player but so far none of them have hooked me.

I like Djokovic so I won't be in a misery anyway.

I really like Sock and Stan.

Sock's improvement in doubles has really made him a threat in all areas of the court. Only issue is Sock hits a 2hander which I don't really relate to...

...and Stan is so inconsistent =(

Anyone from young generation who,
* has developed touch based game.
* got ability to take ball on rise.
* has got near perfect orthodox stroke technique and hits clean. No moonballing.
* can hit spot serve.
* doesn't hack ball in play in Murray/Coric style.

At the moment, Kokkinakis and Zverev are two on top of my list of favorite youngsters. Rublev might get there too.

He's a hard act to follow, that much is a certainty.

I can't say anyone is particularly appealing. Dimitrov would be the natural choice, but that is a bit like supporting a second division football team.

I think tennis will lose popularity amongst the viewing public when the Big 3 are gone.

Enjoy them while you can.

How about Nadal or Djok? I mean how can u not respect the heights these guys accended to ? Dimitrov is ok but really if you compare his dedication to the sport we love with Novaks and Nadals.... it is not even in the same universe. Nadal is having his worst season ever and yet he is still ranked very high. I understand you have no feeling what so ever for Tsonga or Dimitrov and you just observe their style, on the other hand Djok and Nadal are a real threat and you probably lost a lot of nerves watching fed vs nadal - djok matches.

I would like to see Jack Sock get in REALLY good shape to see how high he can go. If his backhand continues to improve he will be fun to follow.

I don't know. I'm not going to just switch to someone as an alternative. Eventually a player will come along who I'll fully support, but I can't say right now, that player might not even be on the tour yet. It's never going to be the exact same because I started watching tennis in the first place because I saw Fed play at Wimbledon 2003, when I immediately became a fan. Other players are never going to have that impact on me anymore, but I'm a 100% certain I'll be rooting for other players. I'll see what happens as I keep watching the sport. :)

As much as I'm a Fed fan I also love Nadal so he will be who I primarily want to win.

Overall though a player who evokes the emotion of Federer can't/won't necessarily be replaced overnight and it will likely take some time until another player who commands such a strong following comes along....and I'm more than comfortable with that.

In the interim I'll just continue to enjoy tennis and will hopefully watch a variety of players as they try to create their own legacies.

Dimitrov, Stan, Tsonga, Nishikori and Kyrgios will be the first group of players whom I will root for after Roger retires.

Then Berdych and Gasquet make up the next group of players whom I will support.

However, I won't be as invested in a tennis player as I was with Roger; he is something else and my favourite athlete of all time.

I will still enjoy watching tennis, especially from the players I listed above and I can relax and not worry too much during live matches.

I hope Grigor and Kyrgios win a slam each in the next couple of years.

Won't be as invested in a single player as I was with Rog. Only Kuerten came close, and even then. Simon would be my favourite after he is gone.
Wawa, Dimitrov, Kyrgios, Murray, Ferrer, Tomic, Dolgo, Anderson, etc. All sorts of players...

Just not Querrey. Or Monaco and Troicki for that matter, lol...

Stan Wawrinka for as long as he lasts (he's getting kind of up there now too).

After that...

Kei Nishikori
Jack Sock
Grigor Dimitrov

I'll go with Dimitrov, Goffin and Dolgopolov (for fun). I also don't mind Pospisil.

However, I think that Raonic will have more success than all these guys; I'm not so crazy about his game though. For me it's all about the classical Olympic ideal of physical beauty coupled with moral excellence, the Greek concept of "kalokagathia," or the idea that true aesthetic perfection was a marriage of the physical, moral and spiritual - beauty for them was far more than just external appearance. This is why I'm savouring Federer's twilight career and the added poignancy of every match. Results don't matter and they never really have (not that I haven't had my Federer moments) - although a little bit of victory is nice.

Probably Thiem. Either him or Anderson.

As always, Murray.

I think he will stick around 3+ more years, unless his back issue acts up( or other injury).
The guy has GOAT desire inside.

They are way too proud to support anyone else. Expect them to say "Peak Fed would destroy this current slam winner, or no. 1 etc" or something like that non-stop.

Fortunately for us, Federer is already thinking of his 2018 schedule. So, we probably don't need to make any decision yet.
For now though, I like Wawrinka, Dimitrov, Delpo, Kokkinakis, Tomic, Fognini, Goffin... a whole lot of players.

Oh, I also typically root for any Djokovic's opponent!:p

Grigor: I like his attacking game, needs to attack more inside the baseline then staying back for too long or else he'd be on defense. I'd like to see him S&V alittle more. He has pretty good hands at the net, just need to mix it up more. The one thing he just need is the tactic and mental side of things then he'll be good to go.
Kei: Like his game, very agressive on both wings, takes the ball early. Kinda like a Chang/Agassi hybrid. He just needs to stay heathy and build up some muscle.
Jack: Very unorthodox spiny/heavy forehand (reminds me of a Courier/Roddick forehand) kinda consistent backhand, but needs more work. Fitness isn't that great, needs to build a little more muscle.
Goffin: Very consistant on both wings, moves pretty well for a small guy, similar to Kei, needs to build more muscle and attacking game is pretty sweet too.

Better still in 15 or so years time they will be saying, even at 50 Federer would still beat whoever that current no 1 player in the world is.

JM Delpotro.

Then Aussie hopefuls Kyrgios, Tomic and Kokkinakis if they make it to the top.

I'm more of a fan of style and grace than power, so I like Gael Monfils. I'm sure younger players will come along with similar games.

And of course, there will be plenty to like in women's tennis and doubles.
