For Hybrid Nat. Gut Users

This question is for those you use natural gut in a hybrid set up, after how many days of play do your natural gut strings usually last. I'm asking because I recently got my LM Prestige strung with Babolat Vs Nat. Gut on the mains, and ALU Rough on the crosses, and I'm a bit nervous. Synthetic strings usually last me around three months with three days a week of play.

If you go 3 months with a syn. gut - I would think the gut would last much longer. I use string savers when the string starts to fray...

what gauge synthetics did you use and what gauge gut did you get? dont your synthetics go dead after a few weeks? i say this because poly will be a lot worse...also...i dont think you really have much to worry about, especially if a full synthetic setup last you 3 months. If your worried about the gut breakin easily, use string savers

It is almost a waste of a great string like VS to string it with a coat hangar like polyester. If you get three months out of synthetic strings (polyester?) then why not just string the whole frame with VS and get the full gut experience instead of a watered down version.

Well I heard that the ALU Rough gives the racquet some added spin potential, and if plain old natural gut would be best, why do most professionals use hybrids instead? Don't tell me because if they used only natural gut they would be breaking too many strings, Safin's breakin too many RACQUETS!!!

This is the Federer setup. If you get the tension of the mains and crosses just right, you may get a couple nice hitting sessions out of this setup. the gut holds tension great in the mains and the poly crosses dont, so you will pretty quickly get a racquet with a very expensive stringjob which turns into a big mismatch depending a bit upon the tensions you've chosen. Fed doesnt care as he changes stringgjobs with every change to new balls or whenever he feels the racquet is losing playability. Your problem isnt going to be a matter of the strings breaking, it's going to be a prob w. the playability rapidly eroding in my opinion.

I set the tension of the gut mains at 60lbs and alu rough crosses at 58lbs. How do you think that would play? Unfortunately I can't give this baby a try until friday night.
