For max improvement, should I ditch 4.0 and play Opens?

Me and LeeD are hopefully going to play today, I'll see if I can convince him to let me take some new videos of his serves and some groundstrokes/volleys. His serve is definitely more impressive in person than it was in that video from 3 years ago. He has a nice, flowing motion and good placement and spin on them.

All you slow serving righties without a real shot. TopspinShot has a real enough serve, it appears.
To say TLM has speed, with his build, is beyond comment.
Arche3, you are 4.5, you must know you can get points off a 5.5 if you do your thing correctly.
Me, I'm slower than you, but maybe 1.5 seconds slower in the spider drill than MattLin. Matt is faster than you, by yards. Last spider drill, tapping the intersecs with the correct tennis foot, 19.3 seconds. Try it.
Nobody said I can win against an Open player.
But, I can get a couple of points by WINNING them, then hope they miss one or two during that game.
Maybe YOU guys can't.
President aka Josh, and I played against a solid 4.5 and a weak 4.0. Since you guys say I"m a weak 4.0, Josh must be a pretty good doubles player, as we won 6-1.

No. What about the people you are playing against? Do you think they want to play against a 4.0?

Yes, if it's a tournament because they have a very good chance of advancing. Perhaps not if it's a social game or training session.

I recently played in a 4.5 tourney and got crushed by the 1 seed (and eventual winner). In the Open draw there were two 4.0s who wanted to "play up." I would have preferred playing them because I would likely have beaten either.

Most players 4.5 and better like hitting with me, because I hit like 4.5+, although with no movement.

Why don't you show that video of your serve that was on the site a few years ago so we can see this big serve of yours. Plus do you have some video of some hitting? Lets see it's like the saying goes don't tell me show me.

I showed a few of my serves and i was not trying to hit them near as hard as I can just a decent spin serve. That is all I need my first rarely ever gets attacked, because unlike you I can rally and cover the court.

So I serve at a high 1st serve % because I can win a lot of points off court coverage and consistency 2 more things that you cannot do. First you say that you mostly play dubs with older slow guys like yourself which would make sense. But now you could get points off open players and maybe a few games this is hilarious. You are such a legend in your own mind.

I see tennis as a shot making skill, no matter the LEVEL of the players involved.
Nobody I know says a 4.0 can "hang" with an Open level player.
But, a 4.0 can hit forcing shots, winners, and of course, OUT balls against any level of player short of top D-1 singles.
Maybe YOU cannot serve wide to the backhand side, approach net to just inside the service line, and angle a short CC low volley for a clean winner.
Maybe YOU cannot take a chance on a ROS to belt a flat fast backhand CC for a clean winner.
Maybe YOU cannot hit a few serves to the backhand side, then throw in a 99mph flat serve within 12" of the center line to fully stretch the opponent.
But maybe, other 4.0's CAN do this, even if they play with old farts 3 days a week.

Of course, it's what I say.
We all see you as a pusher type who hits with topspin, yet only wins with opponent errors. You run and run, until your opponent gives up and goes for a bigger shot than he can really handle.
That is no way to play against 4.5 thru open level players, as you do all the running, they do the hitting.
If you would flatten out your shots, GO for the sidelines a bit, swing as fast as you do now but hit much flatter, you will find even someone like you can hit winners against better players, so you don't have to fetch for them all the time.
