For the love of God Nadal please pull out from WTF!!!!!

Talking about rude crowds, apparently Miami crowd (Brazilians) behaved very bad towards Janowicz when he was playing against Bellucci

By Amy Fetherolf
(March 23, 2013) MIAMI — In a match where crowd involvement surpassed the tennis for entertainment, world No. 40 Thomaz Bellucci upset world No. 24 Jerzy Janowicz, 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-3 in the second round of Miami.
The crowd was heavily behind the Brazilian, and it immediately became clear that dealing with the atmosphere would be a struggle for Janowicz.
Janowicz charged to a 3-1 lead in the first set, but Bellucci was able to break Janowicz and force a tiebreak, which he won, 7-5.
During the first set, scattered Janowicz fans began chanting during the changeovers, and the pro-Bellucci crowd responded by booing and whistling. Each time Janowicz stepped to the line to serve, the tennis crowd chanted “Vamos quebrar!” (“Let’s break.”) A few rowdy fans called out their own line calls and time violations. Chair Umpire Kader Nouni tried meekly several times to quiet the crowd, but the unruliness continued to escalate.
As Janowicz served to force a first set tiebreak, the crowd began to boo and whistle. He threw his arms up in the air, encouraging the crowd to boo louder. They were happy to oblige. They booed him enthusiastically again when he paused to tie his shoes between points. His pleas to Nouni to calm the crowd went unanswered.

Janowicz racked up 31 unforced errors to Bellucci’s 12 in the first set.
The match stayed tight for six games in the second set, but Bellucci double faulted twice to hand Janowicz the break for 5-3, and failed to convert on an 0-30 opportunity as Janowicz served it out.
Janowicz continued to fire up the crowd, giving them a thumbs down during one of the changeovers as they booed him, and laughing at the reaction he got.
The third set was one-way traffic for Bellucci, even though he paused to receive treatment from the trainer for a gluteal injury. He held from 15-40 down, and Janowicz spit on the court in frustration.
Meanwhile, the crowd’s rancor was growing exponentially. A man sitting directly behind Janowicz’s coach began yelling and chanting, “Go home, Polska.” Nouni did not intervene, perhaps having given up on controlling the crowd. Janowicz laughed through the last changeover.

Bellucci served out the match successfully, much to the crowd’s delight. Janowicz bolted for the exit immediately, chased by a trail of boos, whistles, and jeers.
“He’s already lost. Let him be,” Janowicz’s coach said to the man behind him who was chanting for Janowicz to go home.
For Bellucci’s part, the match atmosphere was nothing he wasn’t used to.
“Maybe Janowicz had some distractions, but for me, I’m used to playing like that,” Bellucci said. “When we play in Davis Cup in Brazil, it’s always like that. The crowd is very loud. Maybe for the other player was not so good.”
“It was very special to be on court with a Brazilian crowd. The crowd was full of Brazilians. Very happy to have this victory. I hope to play well in the next round.”

Yes a racist country that gets right behind Tsonga and Monfils. Yeah right! Parisienne's love Federer for his style and flair, and they have never warmed to Nadal.
Knowledgeable tennis players/fans appreciate Federer. It's mostly kids without much tennis background that like Nadal.

Maybe  or maybe because Federer finally won it in 2009, the crowd used to cheer for him!

Federer is chic.... :)

I prefer the Wimbledon crowd!

I get nervous courtside no matter which player is playing. Would never booed anyone. Maybe if the player was very rude. But so far no reason for not supporting the players.

Nadal pulling out of the WTF to Nadal being hated by the French to Fed being loved the French and we're back to debating the GOAT

Skip the World Tour Finals????
Mr Wayne, have you gone bonkers? Nadal needs to end the year ranked #1!

Also it would great if he wins the only big title he hasn't won yet.

No I did not bring up Fed to get into childish GOAT crap. I was just trying to make point that I think Parisienne's do not warm to Nadal in big part because they like Federer so much. I think TDK's claims of racism is a piece of lazy analysis.

Janowicz needs to shut up and play...For someone who hasn't done anything yet, he seems to be talking more than actually winning anything significant.

I liked his style of play but he's getting on my nerves every time he opens his mouth.

Aside from the match itself, one of his biggest disappointments for Rafa was to see the lack of support from the Roland Garros crowd, who sadly, have never been too kind to the champion, “It’s a pity to see that in a tournament as especial as [Roland Garros] is to me, the crowd has never had a nice gesture towards me."

They were quite supportive of him this year, even against Djokovic. Maybe in the past the crowd got bored seeing him win every fooking year. If I weren't a big fan, I'd want to see a new champion too.

Remember, Rafa had great crowd support when he took on Roger Federer at Wimbledon, because unlike RG, here he really was the underdog.

The Brits love him at Wimbledon. People cheer for him at USO, even in the final this year, he got more support than the Serb.

Look, Nadal will get more crowd as he gets older and slower making him more vulnerable.

Federer at 32 IMO gets much more crowd support than he did in his best days.

I agree. Please tosser mc fuentes. ... pull out.... but not just wtf. Please pull out also of tennis

As for Rafa to skip, hey, what the heck, pull out! If facing the weakest field in tennis history, and he pulls out, then... I'd think he'll win his eyes closed. Apparently, his most ardent fans don't believe so, thus the plethora of excuses: AO, rest, knee, long season, all the other BS.
Just curious, has anyone remembered reading some Fed's fans begging Fed to skip WTF for the same BS reasons?

If Nadal pulls out of the WTF I assume he'd also pull out of Paris. That way Djokovic would have a clear shot at ending the year at no 1 if he played 2 good tournaments.

Yeah that seems like a fun scenario, I agree with you TDK! Especially since the AO is so far away!

He needs the rest. I would focus just on the AO. The rest doesn't matter.

Don't care about the rankings or wtf .

I was like "wait, what?" :)

Look at this blog from 2011:

I have given up on the French crowd

I’m not 100% sure of it, but I don’t believe I’ve ever dedicated an entire blog to a tennis crowd. I’ve written about players (of course) and I’ve written about tournaments as a whole...I even once wrote about a tournament director. But never have I been inspired to direct an article at a crowd.

And now that I think on it, I’d have thought that if I WERE to write a blog entry dedicated to the horrid behavior of a group of fans, it might have been directed at the J-block. But even the prospect of dozens of James Blake’s friends treating Arthur Ashe stadium like their own personal Toga party pales in comparison to what happened in Paris today.

For the record, I like a raucous crowd. I love the enthusiasm of the Australian Open fans with their green and yellow wigs and their loud support. I can even get behind the nuttiness of some Davis Cup matches. But I will NEVER understand hating a player for nothing more than winning a lot.

Tennis has had a long tradition of producing players people love to hate. Jimmy Connors, for example, often behaved so badly on court that the entire stadium of people watching him felt as though they were personally fighting with him. Connors enjoyed this, he cultivated it. He swore, he screamed, he employed bad sportsmanship. He deliberately intimidated chair umpires and started fights with fans DURING the match.

And when a player behaves in the way Connors did, fabulous tennis or no, you expect some booing. It’s part of the show after all and well-earned. But for a stadium full of people who did not even WITNESS a match to boo a player for winning a tough 5-setter...well, I’m sorry but that is low rent. Despicable and disrespectful even.

For those of you who haven’t heard, Rafael Nadal was taken to five sets by John Isner on Philipp Chatrier court on Tuesday. For half the match, Isner played magnificent tennis to force Nadal to a 5th set. It was a heck of a fight. The crowd at Chatrier was treated first to Isner’s heart, and then to Nadal’s. They got to witness Isner continue to fight when the fifth set was pretty much lost. They saw Nadal thread brilliant passing shots past the towering American.

When Nadal finally won the fifth set, the result was flashed on the scoreboard in neighboring Suzanne Lenglen stadium. And in response to Nadal’s victory, half the stadium BOOED him. Let me repeat that. They booed him for WINNING. He did not swear at the chair umpire, he didn’t rub out a mark before it could be checked. He didn’t even beat a Frenchman.

I’ve heard all sorts of excuses over the years. Excuses for the ridiculously rude behavior. That he’s Spanish and the French don’t like the Spanish. That he dares to play the sport of tennis with “construction worker” arms. That they prefer to back the underdog. I was even told that he “works too hard” for them, whatever that means.

In the end, it doesn’t really matter why they do it; whatever sorry excuse they come up with will never be good enough. They are guilty of treating a great champion like he’s nothing better than a dog stealing the Easter ham off the dining room table. Instead of giving him the respect that a 5-time champion deserves, they boo him for winning a first round match over a player from a country they despise.

I’d like to think that they’re ashamed of themselves, but I highly doubt it. That’s okay, I’ll be ashamed for them. Congratulations, French crowd – you win the award for Most Classless Fans. Well done!

I had forgotten reading about that then :-?
Some interesting articles. I remember seeing a short interview with Rafa after that match against Grossjean in 2005.

Anyway, French tennis crowds are just rude really. I've still never seen anything like their behaviour against Hingis in that RG final.
Also, the fact Rafa is Spanish must play a part when it comes to their behaviour towards him... they were very nice this year though, lol.

One thing, I think the booing in this year's final was towards the protestor, not Rafa.

I don't get the joke with the title "For the love of God, Nadal please pull out." Can someone explain it to me please?

He wants to, reasonably, secure the end of year Number 1 ranking

He needs to secure the Year end number 1 ranking. He pretty much has it sewn up....but if he doesn't complete in Paris or the WTF - then if Djokovic wins Paris and the WTF it could be tricky.

The other thing is that winning the WTF is important to him. It is the only major title to elude him. He and his uncle wouldn't be complaining about the surface/conditions of the WTF if it wasn't important to him. I agree the Australian Open is more important but given this gap in his Resume, the WTF would be far behind.

the real prize at wtf is not the title:

the real prize is nole`s head. nadal has to go and get it.

it could serve him well for all of 2014.

But do you think Rafa can do it?
The bounce is about US open court, but still indoors..
Well, Novak has bad days at the office from time to time..
Wonder who Delpo will play in WTF:shock:

nobody knows what is really going to happen there.

nole could be burned out by then. he is saddled with the pressure of having to defend it.

my guess: nadal is going for nole`s head there. that would be my goal.

if he can get a win or 2 over nole there and he can safely navigate all of 2014.

Well, it might have a sexual meaning (but that might just be my mucky mind) or it might simply mean that Nadal-haters would like him to pull out of everything and never play again.

Take your pick!

No way in hell Nadal skips WTF this year. It might be his best chance ever to win the title, plus pulling out would give Djokovic a clear shot at YE no. 1.

I dont know, but I have a feeling Rafa wants WTF more than previous years. He has gone even deeper in the tennis history this year. His trainer Tony says Rafa isnt interested in making history, but I am not so sure about that.
I have tickets for London.. And would love to see Rafa fighting and winning there. Though I dont have high hopes for him this part of season. But I have this feeling this year he wants it more.

Novak seems like unstoppable in China. But he seems to freak out in big finals lately. Andy winning 2 of their 3 last GS meetings. And Rafa at the USO.

Nadal wants this title and has a decent shot.
It could backfire too with up to three losses.

As far as the AO goes playing the WTF shouldn't effect anything being just one week and plenty of time to rest up.

Besides, Nadal will probably play some exo's anyway on steel courts.

noe is going to be out of gas sooner or later.

that is when you strike.

nadal needs to grab a few points in paris and then just take it easy.

nadal would be a fool to go after the paris masters title.

Come on bro!!! Think about the AO....who gives a rats ars about WTF.....Nadal is playing injured and is pulling out of everything again:

There's about 2 months between them. Plenty of time. also -

Rafael Nadal pulls out of Swiss Indoors 'to regroup fitness and body'

Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from next week's Swiss Indoors tournament in Basel citing fatigue.

Fatigue is not an injury.Same old injury excuses from his fans. (not him)

Nadal has always found hard courts the toughest surface on his body and back-to-back tournaments in Beijing and Shanghai appear to have taken their toll.

Sure but he somehow managed to win Canada, incy and the USO back to back?
