okay i must admit im a bit confused. if the balls far on my fh side, i'll take my first step with my left foot. if its close, i'll take my first step with my right foot. but a friend said it should always be first step with the right foot which when i look at pro's on tape, is not true. you may put your weight on your right foot but usually on the far balls they take first step with their left foot. so any thoughts on which is right? and what about the small adjustment steps? left or right foot?

For a ball that is far away you, performing a stepout with the foot closest to the ball may not be your better option.

You might have to get on your high horse and perform an immediate crossover step and sprint.

Another alternative is to perform the gravity step which means you unweight your inside foot (right foot) and bringing your left foot over.

In my opinion, I would recommend learning the gravity step for those wide balls rahter than just crossing over. Cross over only if you absolutely have to because many times this sends your momentum too much sideways and makes it harder to recover.

can you describe the gravity step more in detail? is it something like a side step? and what about close balls? would a stepout with closest (right foot) be better?
