forehand grip: gap between index and middle fingers

Hello,

My forehand grip is in between Eastern and Semi-Western grip. In looking at lots of grips (pro and non-pro) images, I see a gap between index and middle fingers. My grip has no gap. Is there anything bad about this? Thanks in advance.

If there is no gap there is a good chance that you are holding the racquet so that it is perpendicular to your arm -- not a good idea for a FH grip. If you open your hand (your fingers), you should see the racquet handle lying diagonally across your palm (rather than lying straight across your palm). With the racquet orientated diagonally, it is more of an extension of your arm (rather than being at right angles to it).

I think it depends on your swing, though I hold mine with a slight gap. I feel like I get better racquet stability that way (more area of my palm is in contact with the grip).

What part of your palm are you referring to? If the racquet handle lies in your hand diagonally (which yields a greater gap), then more of the palm (both upper & lower palm) should be in contact with the grip. The exception to this is when the little finger is at the very lower edge of the butt of the racquet -- part of the lower palm is no longer in contact with the racquet. This is what Roger ederer and many other pros do (see image of Roger below).
