I know what you mean. I think it's hard bc people might only focus on one part, eg the FH alone, while ignoring all other parts. But it really works in a system. Eg. you can't have the Fed fh if you cannot have his balance. You cannot have Fed balance if you don't have his built. I dunno.
I have long given up on mimicking any pro's. I want to focus on one or two fundamentals at a time. Only 1 or 2 so that my mind can process. I think it's a good decision. If I used a pro, it'd be like..what shot would Nadal hit in this situation. How would he prepare if he produced a short ball. That kind of things.
I'm just saying that instead of thinking the arm and racket will just swing around, accelerate and release on it's own will automatically happen is not true.
That is true in the real world ... just not in ttw world.
In the real world ... we use A LOT of arm to hit a FH ... including Fed. Fed hides it so well ... it led to monkey drum slung arm theory, and it’s been all downhill in ttw FHs since then.
That said ... ttw world is WAY better than real world.
Can someone please explain what the difference is between ‘active pronation’ and ‘passive pronation’? I googled it and didn’t find anything useful to help me understand this. I know what pronation and supination mean, but have no idea how to do it actively or passively. Without finding any biomechanics or tennis research papers using these terms, it seems like these are made-up TTW forum concepts.
My first coach wrecked my forehand by focusing too much on hips and kinetic chain. I had natural ability to hit with very good precision and reasonable spin and power, and lost pretty much all of it by trying to turn off all my arm muscles. That's basically my interpretation of what he was teaching. I'm grateful for learning the kinetic chain concept and what I should be working toward, but there are much better ways to reach the end result without wiping everything out.
I spent a month or two trying to get back to where I was before taking lessons. My new coach basically asked me to shift contact point forward and shorten my back swing, and wouldn't you know it, I naturally started using my legs and core to make up power, yet never felt I was told to stop using or doing anything.
