when i start my forward swing, my raquet is still stuck behind me

how do i correct that?

i know there is suppose to be a lag with the racquet. but i think my arm is way too far behind my body rotation

The concept of the "double bend" is very helpful here. Get your elbow at a consistent bent angle and lay your wrist back and down. Make sure the butt cap of the racket is behind your right hip before the forward movement.

To initiate the forward swing, there are only two things to do. One is to rotate your shoulders. The other is to pull the butt cap forward. This will create the "lag" you need.

see the second photo

see how kim's racquet is broken the plane of the torso.

u never see a male pro in that position

as yandell said in his common elements of pro's forehand article, the racquet stays on the right side of the plane of the torso.

u see a lot of women pro forehand breaking that plane.

why is that?

and if u do that, does that mean u hit like a girl?

I think that was Heath Waters that said that. Here are some male players who break the plane:

Calleri, Horna, and another player I can't identify.

Im very intrested in this question as well. For now it seems the best way I can hit consistently my FH is if I place my racquet on the peak of the takeback in a way that its almost parallel to the baseline! Its really not on the right side of the body! I really try to hit like I see pros doing it but I have trouble controlling the shot. If I decide to do the takeback like Clisters does in the link provided in above post I have the racquet completely at the same position in the peak of the takeback as it is in the contact point. That means theres little change for error moving from takeback to the contact...but it kinda eats the relaxed feeling that a FH should have

sorry, yandell was talking about the right hand - not racquet head.

"A critical commonality: right-hand on the right side "

also, maybe he is saying the ideal forehand shouldnt break the plane. i m sure it happens time to time.

i just cant figure out why this is so important? but i feel that it is crucial element of a proper forehand. yandell doesnt explain the reasoning. he just says it is a "critical comonality"

once again someone doesnt understand my english :) gosh i need to get back to shool.

I was just trying to explain that I can do a consistent forehand easier if I decide to do the takeback like in the clisters photo you were talking about. But it feels awkward
