Forehand volley problems

I've always used my forehand grip for my volleys, and hit each (FH and BH) volley with the racquet face perpendicular to the ground punching forward. I get good depth and pop this way. Now, trying to transition to continental grip, I notice that although the face is closed slightly on the BH side, which isn't so bad, it's open when you hit a FH volley. Do you turn your wrist so the face flattens out right before you hit the ball, or are you supposed to make contact while the face is open? If the latter, wouldn't the ball either go up in the air or result in every shot being slow with backspin?

The face should be slightly open at contact on both forehand and backhand volleys if you're using the continental grip. Imagine your racquet is a butterfly net, and you're trying to "catch the ball" in it. The ball shouldn't go up in the air if your arm movement is slightly high to low (like a small but strong slice). The ball will have some backspin on it, but it shouldn't slow it down too much.

A slow/low ball is an advantage if you're hitting a drop volley (dropping the ball just by the net). Your oppenent will have a harder time reaching it.
