Legend
The Olympics has a long amateur history. And hence bronze and gold medals had their place. A consolation prize for participation if you will.
Yes, we get it. The amateur Olympic Spirit.
But those days are gone and now the Olympics are filled with professionals.
No tennis pro is satisfied with the runner up trophy at a grand slam. It is viewed as a devastating loss.
Likewise, there is no joy in winning Silver at Olympic Tennis (ask the weeping Carlos).
Winning is the only goal. First place. Gold is the only goal, Nothing less.
Just as it should be.
