Forget Anisimova, who I feel sorry for are...

..the people who paid hundreds of pounds for a centre court ticket yesterday. 57mins of singles action for what £300-400 pounds?? Oh dear. This is one of the reasons I have never ever tried to get a ticket during the finals weekend, first week is the best with so many matches on show, especially on the outside courts.

Not all of them. There will be a lot of casual tennis fans there. Wimbledon tickets are distributed by a public ballot. Although god knows how they're allocated, a friend of mine signed up for the ballot every year for the last 20 years and never got in once.
Is you friend a tennis club member? Also, become a club volunteer. I’ve not taken up tickets three years in a row now as I’ve been busy during the Wimbledon fortnight.

The women's final ticket always seems a risky buy. You're about equal chance of getting an implosion as a great match.

I AGREE! Prices today are ridiculous, especially to see one singles match

First week of a Slam is a better fan experience??? WOW you're the first person to ever figure that out!!!

Sure, but you know that risk is there. 2013 was an absolutely embarrassing beating. 2014's final was over even quicker than this one was. 2017 they got one great set, and then basically a walkover, 2019 was pretty unremarkable given the cost. This wasn't the first time something like this happened.

You're not guaranteed anything other than seeing a champion crowned. These people this year at least got to witness a little history.

This is what you get with women's matches. They can range anywhere from 40 minutes to 3 hours. At least with a best of five affair, you're guaranteed at least 90 minutes of action.

However, you don't expect one player to get zero games in a slam final, especially not one that just beat the world number 1 just a couple of days ago. I've seen players start poorly due to nerves, or players that just didn't bring their best, but any one of the other 127 players in the draw at the start of last week would have beaten that version of Anisimova.

I don't. That's part of the bargain in tennis and all people paying to to attend a tennis match understand the wide swath of what could happen - to nearly three hour tight three-setters to something like yesterday's women's final. If they don't want to risk it, they don't have to buy a ticket and let the thousands who missed out on tickets a chance to get one.

Plus, they still get to revel in the cathedral of Center Court and watch a champion be crowned.

Totally agree. It's not only about the money. The excitement and buzz is better during the first week (especially first weekend which is competitive typically). And I think the real tennis fans who understand tennis are around during beginning rounds much more than a final..

I don't think he is. Does that affect your chances to get tickets in the public ballot? If it does, that's very unfair!

What about the long line for tickets then. Dont they provide for finals

It does affect your chances. You are entering an additional ballot. Being a tennis club member sort of indicates an interest in tennis

They just paid money to be seen and to tell people they were there. Otherwise they're too busy popping champagne bottles and passing out in 76 degree weather.
