The question of moving to another area has been discussed a lot in order to make the tournament grow, and different projects were discuted, including staying at Paris, going to Versailles, going to Marne la Vallée (next to EuroDisney)... The tournament has been held at Roland Garros since 1928. That's where the history of the tournament is.

The direction of the French tennis Federation just voted for staying 30 voices on 43.

The decision will be taken sunday by the general assembly of the FFT if a project get 2/3 of the votes.

Various players have spoken on the issue. Nadal does not imagine the tournament being held elsewhere while Federer wants the tournament to move. The last french winner wants the tournament stay where he is.

I think Wimbledon should become a revolutionary water surface slam

Move it. Nobody ever misses the old site 5 years later. They moved the US Open from charming Forest Hills to an area that looks like a Superfund site, yet I never hear anyone pining for the old location.

Too Bad only Federer and Jesus can walk on water! Cakewalk Draw!

Yea obviously for Fed, Jesus plays with a stone racket, Fed has that new technology of the modern era that even Jesus couldn't handle, after all he is from 2000 years ago the era was so weak back then.

If they decide to move it, I hope it's in Versailles. The other projects (Marne-la-Vallée, Gonesse) are lame.

At least Versailles has some prestige to its name, so I wouldn't mind if they moved RG there. The project looks solid, but a bit costly.

for once, i'll agree with the nadal:
RG has to stay in paris, porte d'auteuil !!!

not only the history is there... but one of the charms of the tournaments is also its very easy/quick access from the rest of the city !

No, Jesus' would be made out of the wood of His Cross.

And don't forget Moses, he just moves the water with his wooden racket-staff

Apparently it's going to be costly to either move it or expand it -- but I also read it would actually be more expensive to move it, in which case I don't quite understand why they're thinking about it.

Actually I didn't really read in that article that Fed did not want it to move. He just said think about it carefully before making a decision.

He makes guarded statements, but with quotes such as the following,
Roger Federer said:
What about the soul of Roland Garros? This is what we might miss after.
it's extremely hard to say that Federer is for the move.
