It's going to be a hell of a match.

I gotta root for the underdog - Federer! The one and only few times he will be an underdog.

When and where will the match be showing on tv?

Nadal in 3 sets. I expect a similar match as the Djokovic one. I think Nadal will have it slightly easier. 6-4 6-3 6-4 type score.

No way. No straight set victory - too boring! Let's go with a 5 setter for the ages.

I disagree, this could be Fed´s last real shot at winning the career slam and being officially considered the GOAT
Without injuries, he could have a shot for 2-3 more years, although less of a shot of course. Maybe he'll do it like Goran on a wildcard when he's in his 30s :)

I personally think Nadal will win but I really hope Roger can somehow pull off a miracle so I'll vote for him in 4 if only for the reason that he's my favourite player and I hope he can somehow do it.I will also add that the way some Nadal fanboys here acted here with all those lame threads,I think Nadal(who actually respects and likes Federer) himself would be ashamed of them.

It’s no joke, I really feel strongly that this is my year to win here,” Federer said. “Rafa hasn’t had any problems whatsoever to reach the final, but it’s important to test yourself over and over again and if I’m going to win the French, what better way to do it than beat Rafa in the final. I look at this as an enjoyable prospect.”

Enjoy, roger, enjoy

I love Nadal and his play on clay. I predict Nadal will win. He is simply unbeatable on clay. Federer can't stand a chance to beat Nadal. Nadal's massive insane topspin will kill any chances of what Federer has. Nadal can win 5 more consecutive French Open if he plays like that. Federer has been good but not as good as Nadal on clay. I don't think Federer can even win a set of Nadal.

Nadal in 4. Fed will win the first while the pressure is on Rafa and then once he's up the pressure will shift to him and Rafa will probably roll him pretty easily after that.

Federer comes to net 100+ times and wins in straights, completely catching the tennis world and most importantly Rafael Nadal off guard. This establishes him as the GOAT.

Then Hewitt wins Wimbledon in a few weeks, a man can dream :).

You should add that Safin will win the USO as well(and he'll do it by drinking Vodka during changeovers).

As entertaining as that would be, don't think it will happen. The US Open is for Tomas Berdych this year :), defeating Nicolas Almagro in the finals.

Clay court allows players to chase down the balls. It's difficult to hit winners compare to grass court. IMO, for clay court, one with more consistent and better angle shots with pace will have better chance of winning.

There's something a bit different about Nadal this year. In the past, he used to have a slow start. He would usually start with very length 1st set, hit with moderate spin. Then he would increase spin and pace as matche goes on. But this year, he seems to try to crank it up from the get-go....

Federer Really wants this tourny! he's going to bring it!
So did Djokovic. Djokovic matches up much better to Nadal as well but it didn't matter. Nadal was just on fire from the get go. I don't see any let up as Nadal usually builds on momentum aided by the court surfaces high bounces.

to the people who think federer is going to win, what is your prediction based on? other than wishful thinking....

Djokovic doesn't really match up better to Nadal than Federer IMO. His all-court game is clearly lacking - he tried playing it but failed in Hamburg. When Federer does it, it ends up much better, but he still just can't pull it off. Yet.

I wish he would just be a little more down to Earth about this stuff. Yeah he might win, but this comes across as a bit brash to me. Nadal doesn't talk like this at all, he just says to have any chance to win he has to play his best, while Federer says its his year to win? It's such a stark contrast in personalities...

This match is on Nadal's racquet. He is apparently playing better than ever while Roger is playing his worst tennis since he became number 1. He has lost a few sets against players that Nadal would have smoked at 50%. Only way Nadal loses is if he plays poorly.

Give me a break.I expect Fed to say those things. He needs to feel confident even if its on Nadal's surface.I would like to see Federer serve well in this match. He needs to serve outwide more, i dont know why he doesnt do it as much.

I Am A Federer And Nadal Fan, But Would Want Fed To Win Because He Is The Underdog In This Surface And Want Him To Get D' Career Slam(although I Want Him To Earn It), However, Watching Both Play Against Their Respective Opponents, I Just Can't See How In The World Would Fed Beat Nadal On Clay, It Seems That Only An Injury Can Possibly Stop This Rampaging Tornado In Nadal.......common Sense Tells Me It's Nadal In Three....

Nadal brought his A game today. It could've been a better match if Nadal was a little off. Nadal couldn't just hit to Djokovic's backhands because Djokovic will get in a good rhythm. Nadal needed to mix it up with slices and going for shots to avoid the possibility of Djokovic getting on fire. With Federer, it is clear and simple. Hit high to the backhand to get an error or wait for a short ball to take down the line. Federer's serve does seem to bother Nadal more than Djokovic's though.

After I've looked at both match stats for the samis I voted Fed in 5. Given Nadal hits better passes and a much heavier ball than Monfils, frenchman IMHO has slight advantage over spaniard in speed and court coverage. With high % first serve and aggressive net play Fed would have an advantage. I don't think Fed can hope to outhit spaniard from the base line.

I think from the baseline both Djokovic and Fed get owned by Rafa if he gets his balls deep. That's crystal clear.

So their only chance is to bring him in, come in, SV, etc. Mix up a lot.

Fed actually did it quite successfully just recently, but couldn't keep up to win at both Monte Carlo and Hamburg. If he can persist, he has a very good chance.

No, it's more like Federer is looking forward to the challenge, and is glad to have another opportunity. Why should he be pessimistic? That's a strategy for losing. And the way he played Nadal in the finals at Hamburg and MC, those are definitely the right strategy.

Have come to like Roger and respect Roger although still a diehard fan of Nadal's, I feel he brings dignity to the no one spot as will Rafa. Do we want someone who really speaks first and thinks after? For the most part what Fed says it pretty measured

If Federer wants to win he needs to take advantage of tight situations for example 4-4 30-30 on Nadal`s serve. Also he needs to get a good start and not let Nadal find his rhythm in the early going

I'd love for Fed to win as I'm a big fan, but I go with Nadal in 4, as the past 3 years. Always great to see two great champions with great respect for the game and each other playing. Now, if only they'd meet in a few more hardcourt finals so the H2H could be changed a bit.

Yeah and so did the other 126 guys in the draw, but this is Federer, and he has 12 good reasons to believe it.

i'd love for fed to win the french and for nadal, wimbledon. to win the other's slam would be the best thing to happen to each of them. fed would be goat and nadal would prove he can win on any surface and maybe finally be no.1.

Except for MC 2007, all their clay meetings won by Nadal (scores in bold) were hard-fought, going 3 sets or tight 2-setters; or 4 or 5 sets at slams. Needless to say, so were their only 2 meetings on grass. So, like it or not, Federer is the only one who can give Nadal a run for his money on clay.

I agree, you look at their last 5 sets on clay (this year):

7–5, 7–5, 7–5, 6–7(3), 6–3

Very tight, some of the sets could easily have gone either way, Federer needs to play the big points better and with a bit of luck he could win.

I would love to see Federer complete the career grand slam. I'm a realist, though, and voted for Nadal in 4. He's just been outstanding this past 2 weeks.

There's one thing I'm sure of, though. This is the most interesting match of the year. In my view, this is a tennis fan's Super Bowl. One of the top 3 players of all time up against one of the top 2 clay courters all time, in the Roland Garros finals! Also, if Federer wins he'll pretty much be unanimously coined Greatest Of All Time.

No, they shouldn't. I still don't think Rafa is worthy of a Wimby crown. He's had very nice draws to make the finals. Joker didn't even show up in the semi...

I agree - one way or another it is the most compelling because of the subplots.

I voted Fed in 4. You have to be positive - even in the face of the facts. Rafa has beaten him 3 straight years and is mauling players like Japanese fisherman clubbing baby seals...

Based on overall form I'd say Nadal in three. I think however that Roger showed some perids of time in which he played really agressive and I think he'll win a set, so my head says Rafa in 4. I'll be rooting for Roger, and he's got a chance for sure.. But Rafa's the obvious favourite.

BS. Berdych, Youzhny, Soderling, and Djokovic is a very nice draw. I don't care about fatigue. Just the fact that Nadal got through shows how tough he is on grass.

He had lucky draws in both 2006 and 2007, right?

And then he took Federer to 5 sets because he's lucky, right? Care to name somebody else who would take him to 5 sets last year?
