The French Open 2009 is now about 20 days away. Who do you think will win(Men and Women)? Who will get upset? And who will be the Dark horses? Hopefully people will post there thoughts right up to the tournament and lets see who will get it right.
 
I know I made the thread but my predictions are.
Men Winner: Nadal
Women Winner: Serena Williams
Men Upset: Davydenko
Women Upset: Ana Ivanovic
Men Dark Horse: Juan Monaco
Women Dark Horse: Sabine Lisicki

Simon, Tsonga, Roddick, Murray and possibly in current form Federer imo.

Why isn't Monfils on your poll out of interest. He is top 10.

Monfils is not on my poll because he has been injured latley so he might coke into the french without have playing a match in a while so i wouldn't call that a upset.
 
i don't know about upset but at whatever point federer loses he's gonna be distraught. as for winner, the only way nadal doesn't win on finals day is if an actual dark horse runs on court and forces the final to be postponed.

I can't believe somebody is still picking Serena to win FO after today's humiliation and embarrassment. She just ate a breadstick in the 2nd round of Rome. Before this she lost to #95 Klara Zakopalova couple of weeks ago. Serena won't last past 3rd round in FO, just like last year.

Men's Win: Rafa - he is The Man, no?
Women's Win: Who knows, who cares? I'll pick Henin - she could probably show up with a week's practice and win 14 straight sets.
Men's Upset: Murray
Women's Upset: Almost all the women's top 10.
Men's darkhorse: Stan W
Women's darkhorse: Who knows, who cares? Big Bird Shriver?

They are not excuses. They are normal breakdowns of humans. No one is a machine though Nadal comes close with his amazing 3 tournaments won in 3 weeks. Look whose predicting a Nadal loss. Not a common prediction for someone that is rooting for Nadal.

Upset-Men's: Federer
Upset-Women's: S. Williams
Darkhorse-Men's: JC Ferrero
Darkhorse-Women's: Clijsters (if she plays) or C. Wozniacki
 
i pick murray, simon, roddick (well thats not a surprise) to lose in the first week.

i see the other 7 players in the poll sticking around for the start of the second week.
 
Tsonga, Roddick and Simon as first week casualties, I'd expect Murray and DelPos quality to carry them through but if they catch a tough draw then they are possibilities.

Gonzo as a darkhorse, or at least as someone who can do damage, seems pretty good right now given his recent form and results. Wawrinka could put on a decent run as well though he seems to have dipped since MC. Monaco is a draw no one will want early and a player who could oust a seed or two. If Monfils is fit there's a chance he could do some damage too, though it'd probably rely on the occasion and homecrowd to inspire him.

Fed might be an early W2 casualty but I'm not fond of picking against him, particularly in slam events, I'd expect him to make the semi's at least.

Rafa is overwhelming favourite of course, probably with Nole next in line now but it all depends on draws, he's yet to be in Rafas half on clay this year.

For the wta...I'll think on that after Rome

He is still young, and has already shown improvement on the hard courts. I do think his game would be better off on grass if he "beefed up" his serve in order to win free points.

Anyway, Nadal is playing the best tennis of anyone right now, and doing it from the baseline. Being that Wimbledon is now a baseline bashing fest, I don't see any reason why he won't make it to the finals again.

I voted Andy Murray.

I'm amused to see Jo Willy in the list. A flash in the pan he was and will continue to be one. His losing will not constitute an upset.

You are first and foremost a Fed fanboy. You do respect Nadal's game but you say a lot of annoying things about his habits and like to troll by saying things over and over to ad nauseum. These are the things that make me not like you. You think players are never tired? Haha these players have to live for tennis. If they go slightly off on their preparation, they start to suffer in the rankings.

I say **THE EXACT SAME THINGS YOU SAY**. Those 'excuses", and "tired" posts that I do, I got them from you, and Veroniquem (the two biggest nadal haters on this board) !!!

You just don't like that I overkill it, because it puts you out there, and shows you have no idea what you are talking about.
 
Roger will get to the semis but I'm not sure he'll get past the semis this time. I feel Murray will not go so far in the FO (even though I'd love it if he gets to the final). Djokovic will probably get to the final unless he's on Rafa's half of the draw. Rafa will win unless he suffers an injuy.

I hope djoker ends up in Rafa's half of the draw. I want to see a thumping in the semis.

Rafa vs Roger in the final, with Rafa pulling another impressive win.

Fact is, any posts of mine where I "poke fun" of Nadal as being tired, are really jabbing at Nadal Freak and Veroniquem, whom are the two biggest excuse makers on this board, and repeatedly use this excuse for anything that goes wrong with Nadal. They are like Serena Williams who never gives credit to an opponent.

It was not purposely left, I selected the entire post to copy but for some reason the smiley didn't although it doesn't matter, smileys can be used in many contexts, if that is your sole evidence for saying you were just being ironic, it's pretty poor. Saying "I was being ironic" is a quite common excuse used in forums. Many people can atest to your Nadal bashing skills :).
