1/3 of the way there. I really hope this a quick 3 set match. I really need a Nadal vs. Thiem final! (:

Dom will not beat Nadal, he doesn't take the ball early enough to rob him of time and is too defensive in his mindset. No way can he morph into Soderling in just two days. Hell, even 2005 Safin would beat Nadal in his present form.

Marco is playing well but Thiem just has that extra power at his disposal. Marco C. Needs to use more of those slices and dropshots to keep Thiem guessing

Drop shots look easy but take guts and skill/balance.

Played important element in the Novak upset. We'll see here

Thiem doesnt come forward often

This match will be much more difficult than his potential match against Nadal, I can see Thiem dropping a set here but if he plays like this against the geriatric and aging King then he will win in straights.

Not like Djokovic didn't have his chances.

He definitely created himself chances but the luck wasn't on his side. I was watching stats the other day and Djokovic won more points in the match overall, but aswell in 3/4 sets. He also won more return points. I don't understand how this could happen.

Did people who predicted straight sets Thiem watch any of Cecchinato's matches? Not trying to ridicule anyone but I strongly believe Cecchinato can take a couple sets if he plays to his full potential.

The only Cecch match I watched was his match vs Djokovic and it's my opinion that Thiem should win this in straights if he plays half decently. The thing is, Goffin was injured and Djokovic is in bozo land so I'm not sure you can deduce much from those Cecch wins. A top ten player who is healthy shouldn't be dropping sets and losing matches to a guy ranked 72 in the world who never won a slam match before this tournament.

So tired of these mugs goating against Djokovic but then falls off a cliff. We should be watching a bo5 match between Djoko-Thiem now.

Do you think that would have meant the winner had even less chance of beating Nadal though? Of the many things which will have to align in order for a Nadal defeat to be possible I think one of them is the winner of this match not having too hard a time.

That's been the case all tournament. I'm not sure what's going on exactly but there have been empty seats all week.

People saving up for Russia?

Supposedly it's because the seats are sold to corporate sponsors who may not have a client interested enough to watch the match rather than have a nice meal.

Nole was too passive in general throughout the match. (even desperate at times)
I think his abilty is there, fitness is getting there, but mentally not quite tuned in just yet.

That makes sense. The same thing is happening with European football matches. Lots of more empty seats these last few seasons. Subdued atmospheres due to corporate guests who don't care about the sport, rather than passionate fans.

That's one way of looking at it but Thiem might aswell have it tough here.

I don't know, I really don't care about Nadal too much. I just want to watch Djokovic play on this scene and compete at a high level again. This would be a spectacular match IMO and just what Djokovic would have needed. But he screwed it up, unfortunately.

He missed on the important ones, he really should have at least taken it to five - he knows it as well.

I would have liked Djoko to win the tournament. But once he had to go to five sets to beat Cappucino and then would probably have had a gruelling match against Thiem I couldn't see that as a realistic possibility.

Disappointing return from Thiem who hands CC a game point. Taken by the Italian.

Tentative from Thiem, and it's 6-5, second set. Thiem to serve to stay in the set.

These guys really an example of the evolving game. They move very well but also can hit it 100mph+ off the ground

But the placement hasn't been great. Thiem has had some piledrivers out there. Some extremely pacy shots that should be ending points are returning because they aren't too close to the lines.

Yes, he was playing with too much margin and when it got tight he didn't go for his shots. He was going cross court pretty much all the time and was afraid of changing the direction of his shots and put more pressure
Like BH DHL but that hasn't been working for him so when it got tight he was too afraid. Still though he was in many positions of taking that 4th set, at 4-1 up he had 3 BP opportunities, crazy momentum to go with in that 5th set. At 5-3, he was 30-0 up, but lost 4 points in a row to get broken back. Then in the TB multiple set points with the most notable one when he framed his shot wich should have been an easy put away.

I'd say it was a combination of low confidence in tight moments but also bad luck. However that point where he framed his shot was just pure bad luck.

Come on Dom...win in straights! Be as fresh as possible for the final.

Regardless the outcome of the match, at least Marco is playing his chances and did no go away easily. Kudos to him....

Cecchinato can play a solid game, hopefully this isn’t the last we hear of him.

Still hope Thiem crushes him in set 3. :p

Who is this old man commentating with a very heavy voice(english)? The players are pouring their soul on the court just played the best rally of the match and he is speaking as if he was giving a speech at a funeral.

Thiem has just been a guy for so long. Time for Thiem to be the guy, ya know.

But you know. It's just that....and here's the thing....Thiem.....you've got to say....he's gonna be the guy.....atleast....you know...you never know but....depending on how things pan out....and ofcourse plans can always change but....he's gotta be the guy...

My god! Cecchinato saves 3 set points including 2 on Thiem's serve. Now he has a set point himself. This guy is rivalling Nadal's mental strength.

I don't like Thiems attitude on court, he is coming across as an entitled pr1ck, your opponent played a great shot, don't scream like a little girl

Jeez i feel like the forum hates me. Or maybe my internet connection? Half my posts dont go thru or i double post

The forum acts up at times. We are all having the same issue. When you post something, do not refresh right away. Give it 30 seconds or so. It'll have been posted by the.

Actually, I really don't see what's the fuss with Them all these while. Maybe it's a bad day or is he always this boring? That serve and volley on aasecond serve, on a set point? Boy isn't too smart is he?
