French Open Coverage in US on NBC

Today I noted that NBC was covering the French Open, and they advertised they it would be carried also tomorrow.

I then went to the TW website to confirm this on the TV Schedule page, but found nothing about this. Everything they had listed was for the Tennis Channel.

Is this a late decision by NBC that TW is not aware of?

I don't think so. It was scheduled this way in advance. It's a split between TC and NBC.

Wait till next week when NBC introduces you to the NBC Sports network and delayed semis, go Penguins

That is so annoying when they do that. I really don't understand why they can't just let TC run coverage if they won't show it live because of the Today show...

Not everyone has TC whereas pretty much all have NBC.

On the West coast it started at 9am on Sat and Noon on Sun. Not live for West coast?

What happened to ESPN coverage? I actually enjoy Pat McEnroe and Darren Cahill's analysis.

I don't think they have any coverage of the French Open, they were probably outbid by TC and NBC. Just as well, because I imagine that tennis isn't too high on their list of sports they want coverage of. They'd rather pay for NBA, MLB, and NFL rights, way before tennis.

Because of the BROADCAST RIGHTS.

If nobody has solved that conundrum yet – know that there is a documentary on TC right now that started at 12:30, while NBC has the American broadcast rights for RG till sometime later this afternoon.

Contact ESPN and complain. Maybe next year...............................................

ESPN's ratings & rankings and ad revenues are apparently going down the toilet (compared to what they used to be), so it's entirely possible that they either didn't want to or literally couldn't afford to pay what the tournaments were asking for the broadcast rights.

This is part of it, but also, ESPN never owned broadcast rights for this tournament. They purchased some airtime from NBC who holds the rights. At some point ESPN decided they weren't gonna cover any of RG + also greatly cutback on streaming other tournaments.

Nope. Tennis Channel owns the rights and has been leasing to NBC and ESPN.

Btw, did TC or NBC stream outside courts?
Tennis Channel has a service called Tennis Channel Everywhere which is around $80 per year (had it two years ago when you could get it for the month at $20). This gets you the extra court coverage and you don't need to have tennis channel. Beware though that at least the first men's semi-final (the big one with Nadal) will be on regular tennis channel and not on everywhere. If you have tennis channel you can watch it on the go if you've got your cable login I'm pretty sure (might be Tennis Channel Plus I believe.) Everywhere functions a lot like ESPN 3.

I thought NBC owned tennis channel. but maybe I'm wrong.
No TC was recent sold to owner of Tennis.com. I forgot who is the owner of both companies. Chris Evert tripled her gains and selling it after purchasing of Tennis.com back 5+ years ago with Gregg Norman's money!

Thank goodness Sinclair bought TC. Advertise locally, 24/7 Tennis, no WTA......................................juss kidding

Always a chance that instead of showing the final we get a rerun of an Americans early rounds

Sinclair is a disaster all around!

rightwing nuts, who obviously know nothing about tennis viewers and fans.

I still find it odd that TW TV Schedule page only mentions coverage by The Tennis Channel.

(Maybe they have an exclusive contract or something.?)

Geez, I wonder if the FO men's final is on NBC?

I checked the TV Coverage page here on TW, and it seems to only be a schedule of what's on The Tennis Channel--not tennis coverage broadcast in the US. Alas!
