I love both Nadal and Thiem and this is my dream final! :)

I am hoping that Rafa comes out all business and stays mentally tough. I really want this to be a quick 3 set victory for him. I have not done my daily swim today and I won't go over there until after the match has completed and Rafa has his 11th FO trophy! :)
It's forecasted that match may get postponed till Tuesday.
Will you postpone swimming too ?

Rafa has another good 2-3 years in him. Expect Rafa to dominate the FO. 3 more titles + today. Ending up with probably 22 GS.

I don't understand why the WTA final was on early yesterday, and today we have to go through a crappy WTA doubles match.

The women's final started at 9 EST. The men's final scheduled to start at 9 EST.

You don't have to go through anything until the men's match starts.

Probably. Nadal is now at a stage in which he will be more beatable, is normal. It would not bother me if he loses tomorrow. But it will be silly calling a new king of Clay when clearly the record dont show it yet.
New king is ok for Thiem the heir apparent.

Because rafa will be aging Emperor.:D

Rafa might dethrone him again later even if Thiem wins today and start reigning...;)

There will be thunderstorms and lightening at Roland Garros this afternoon. :D
There is a window between 3:00-7:00 where there is a 3-6% chance of rain and play can go on until 9:00 pm. This nonsense that “play will be postponed until Tuesday” is idiocy. I guess looking at the hourly weather in Paris on Google is too difficult?

BBC says light rain and wind from 16:00 and thunderstorm from 17:00.

EDIT: Low chance of precipitation. So you are right.

Thiem will need to make sure that his plan states that under no circumstances is he going to be standing several feet behind the baseline, otherwise he is going to be in big trouble. Nadal can create angles on this particular court, that he cannot do on any other court in the world, due to the overall dimensions of the space to the sides and in particular to the back of the court. Thiem will need to ensure that he does what Nadal is pretty much the undisputed king of doing, and that is to shrink the court on his side by cutting off the angles.

He will also need to hit deeper towards the center of the court, this will cut of Nadal's ability to generate angles. Fast, heavy hitting shots down the middle, which is where Nadal's forehand is slightly weaker...he's more deadlier off of both sides with his forehand, than he is down the middle. Nadal will cough up more mid court returns, and that is when Thiem needs to understand to step in, and then go heavy into the corners to open up the court, getting Nadal on the run.

Thiem should also take advantage of that massive kick serve that he has, sneak in a few times into the net and volley it away. This strategy should be used occasionally, because it will keep Nadal honest, and prevent him from looping soft returns back expecting Thiem to take the next hit from the baseline, which then allows Nadal to take a massive step forward from the back of the court, and step up onto the baseline. Nadal will need to hit more faster shots as a result, Thiem can use Nadal's own pace of return then to rob Nadal of time, either by hitting heavy down the middle to get the weaker reply, or hard into the corners.

The BHDTL needs to be firing today to offset Nadal camping in the ad side of the court, if Thiem unleashes a few, Nadal will immediately start leaning towards his right in anticipation of that shot. This will leave him exposed on his forehand to heavy deep flat balls, which we know is a strategy that Djokovic and even Federer now uses.

Thiem is Stronger physically, Rafa cannot grind him down. Thiem is 8 years younger than Rafa. Rafa will have to go out there and murder the ball like he did last year. If Rafa comes out aggressive I can only see victory, no?

This is exactly how I see it. If Rafa decides to make a grindfest of this match, he's going to lose. What he needs is to employ more offensive strategy and dictate the game by cranking his forehand. Even though he's older, he still has a killer shot and thus an easier job to win the points and that's the only way he could win this match.

Of course, I'm assuming that Thiem won't surrender in the locker room.

Hoping for a good match. This could end up being a great one if both players perform like we know they can.

Thiem is the only player since peak Djokovic who, physically speaking, can hang with Nadal for 3-5 hours on clay.

Now he gets a chance to prove himself on the biggest stage.

@Meles will not be paying for a drink for the next 12 months if Thiem comes through with the goods today.

Good luck everyone and enjoy.

I like it. How's Thiem going to keep Nadal off that high heavy kicking forehand to his OHBH? If Nadal can take control with that it'll be difficult for Thiem to stay on or close to the baseline and to pull off the DTLBH.

Nadal is pressuring the organizers rIght now to postpone the match till tomorrow cause of the weather. SCENES
He'll get his way I'm sure.

Thiem isn’t only playing against RAFA but he’s also playing against the corrupt organizers.

The best way is to actually run around and start hitting massive flat forehands into Nadal's forehand. Now, if Nadal hits it down the line off of that, then too good, but, that is still Nadal's most difficult shot to pull off and he only really hits them when he is feeling super confident. Attacking Nadal's forehand with flat shots, causing him to lunge to his left, means Nadal will have to really use his wrists to keep that ball in play, let alone get those winners going. He will not be able to stop Nadal all the time, but one massive hit to forehand, if Nadal coughs up a mid court ball due to the trajectory and pace of Thiem's shot, and we know Thiem has a sledgehammer forehand, then Thiem steps in and hits into the open court.

I know.
Accuweather and weather underground forecasting we have window 3-6pm and maybe from 7pm.

I was saying there will be colossal crash. :D

Ps. There might be some thurder and lightening literally though.

It's going to be a lot of running around that backhand. Should be an interesting cat and mouse to see who has the best plan and can pull it off.
