Massive congratulations to Nadal and his decent fans, he now has 11 and who knows how many many more here in Paris.

This was certainly quite an enjoyable RG event overall for me, even though I knew how it was going to end.

RG is like Scarface, you love the ride Tony Montana goes on, but you know how it ends... ;)

Congrats to Rafa on another one. At this rate he will be the favorite to win this until he's 40. #11? Might as well as go for 15 of them. :)

and its #11 for Nadal at RG, jeez !
#17 overall.
great match from Nadal.
Thiem started off pretty well in the 1st set till 4 all.
then went downhill after that, though he wasn't terrible.

I hope not, the field would have to really suck for him to start winning slams.

Nadal is still there as the neccessary standard.
His strategy makes me want to tear my hair out but he's got enough weapons that--if used better--could make him a contender.

It's just that I don't think he'll ever get there.

Unbelievable as always Rafa, fantastic achievement to win the 11th.
After all the hype, Dominic metaphorically slashed his own throat, even at the end.
But he was never really beating Rafa.

Thiem was fine, you can't criticise him really. Other than that first serve percentage, obviously. This matchup, as it does with other players, presents insurmountable challenges for him. Nadal is brutal.

Roll on the grass court season.

97 MPH first serves from Nadal. And Thiem still can't break him.
For the 10,000,000th time: who in their right mind expected any other result? Thiem actually outperformed the predicted 6-2, 6-1, 6-1 scoreline. He was never going to win this match even had Nadal literally had a broken leg. He's mentally weak and a choker in big moments. He's the opposite of what 19 year old Sampras was at the USO, when he casually and with no nerves shot down Lendl, Mac and Agassi to win the title.

The only way to beat Nadal on RG is to rob him of time, stand in close to the baseline and take everything early. Also attack the net after serving him wide. Did Thiem do any of that? No, nor did any sane person expect him to.

Congrats to Rafa but this tournament again showed how completely useless the young generation is. Rafa is the best of all time on clay and dominated like nobody else has ever dominated a single surface but he is 32 for gods sake and the second best player cannot challenge him more like that? I don’t say that Thiem should have won, but given Rafa’s age I would wish at least that some younger player looks like he wants to fight to get to his throne and at least puts up some challenge to him.

ok, i hope Rog takes either this year's Wimbledon or US Open...AND then for the love of the sport, someone young and exciting please rise up and take it. Neither of these greats are going to give it to them.

God saw Thiem being anything but epic so reached down and tweaked his chosen's forearm, forcing him to crawl over the finish line without the aid of a serve for two thirds of the final set to inject a little drama into proceedings for the entertainment of the viewing masses, and there was still nothing Thiem could do about it. Embarrassing effort in final set.

Thiem won two more games this year than he did last year! So much for my optimistic prediction!:oops:

Seriously, Nadal is a phenom/freak of nature at this event, especially at the business end. He can win this tournament for another few years(if he isn't injured.) There's absolutely nobody who is coming close to being able to beat him here. Two generations of useless youngsters who can't step up at slams if their lives depended on it. That's why these lesser tournaments mean diddly squat and I probably won't watch a lick of tennis until Wimbledon.

But congrats to Nadal. He's truly a wonder. Unbelievable athlete and an unbelievable competitor, the best ever IMO.
