French Open loss is a karma for arrogant Thiem

I think the only karma is the one arriving at your screen, judging by the (correct) replies you're receiving for this thread.

In his defense, in the Open Era, no player On the men’s side has won their first slam and then won the next one in the calendar.

Closest player to do it was Andy Murray (USO 12-AO 13 final), I think.
True. Connors did win the first two (in fact, first three) slams he played after winning his first, i.e. the 1974 AO, W and USO. However, he skipped the 1974 FO, so technically didn't win the next one in the calendar after his first.

Also, OP: you're very wrong in your assertion.

Yeah I don't know how come most people forget about Connors, I actually mentioned same thing some time earlier.
I think Connors was banned, so technically he did won his first three slam. I read it somewhere that Connors moved to court also to seek relief from ban.

Connors, and other, were banned from the FO because they chose to play WTT instead of the European clay court season

Not having this at all. Thiem is a gentleman and throughout was displaying brilliant sportsmanship. He arguably nicest guy on tour.
It was a tournament too far. Now he can enjoy US Open win finally.
I mean did Federer and Nadal have any problems battling it out during clay season, playing at RG, then playing again at the Wimby finals after two weeks in between three straight years? Federer even played Halle two of those years.

I mean sure we hold lower standards for Thiem but what does it say that we don't expect the crown prince to challenge for his supposedly best event just because he barely won a 250 level event 4 weeks ago?

And really the thing is that this loss isn't even a remote surprise for those who rate Thiem properly. It's no surprise that a dogged competitor like Schwartzman who moves well and is consistent can take him out. He's just not anything special that you should pencil him in against any type of quality player. The only relevant player Thiem has beaten at RG has been a pretty poor version of Djokovic deep in the 5th set. You would expect the crown prince to at least assert himself dominantly against that type of opponent like Stan did to a much better version 4 years earlier instead of squeaking to the finish line.

It says that it's no wonder we're in a lost era. Many posters are praising Thiem for losing, for heavens sakes. The fans don't expect the crown princes to step up, and the crown princes have been living up to those low expectations.

He never meant WINNING another slam would be easier... he meant that he will, from the USO win onwards, be more at ease within himself therefore allowing him to play more freely... it would essentially relieve all the pressure he’d felt before. Quit twisting words and subjecting your own rhetoric on what you “think” he meant...

At least he's not a coward like Nadal who skipped the US Open.:-D
COWARD?!?! So let’s see here Nadal is in his mid 30s, and he prioritized one tournament over another for longevity’s sake... yes Covid played a role as well but ultimately, his focus was always on the French cause he has better chances of succeeding. We all know this. And for that he’s a coward?!?! How hateful...

Gives him a huge and unfair advanatage at RG. Don't buy the injury issue, so Coward. Already a covid hypocrite so that was just a joke and undercut tennis. Just admit the only reason for not playing both or do as he did and be a coward who uses covid to cover his actions.

Lol at the hate dripping through this.

Thiem was dead on his feet, yet took Diego to the edge.

And for all talks of Federer Nadal clay to grass Transition,

News flash: This isn't a regular season.

Thiem and almost about everyone's practice blocks are f88ked up,so is his fitness regime.

He was dying on court in the USO F. And didn't practice on Clay and didn't train for about 10 days after that.

If any hater like you actually ever watched Thiem, they would know that he plays 2-3 tournaments in succession before slams and yet is barely tired ever.

If you can't see that this is an abnormal situation then you are blind.

And oh, good luck to your favorite's record.

Before this I heard that Thiem was gassed in the RG final last year and the reason he never did that well in slams is because he overplayed and was tired. What's the excuse there?

If you think a truly great player in his prime or peak wouldn't have showed up and mopped up these two slams laughing all the way to the bank schedule be damned you're out of your mind. The level of play is so low. I'm just saying that Thiem isn't a truly great player, that's all. It's not an indictment on him but more on those who consider him so and scoff when he's compared to merely good players like Ferrer.

Zverev wasn't dying on court physically at least in the USO F, despite playing way more tennis before the F and a 5 set semi, why was Thiem? Maybe the issue is Thiem's physicality and fitness. He's not a very physically gifted athlete for not having great size or height. Or maybe he doesn't work as hard as people think he does. Who knows.

Thiem played 1 long match at the USO and that supposedly messed him up so bad he can't properly compete physically 4 weeks later, despite basically taking both masters events off? We'll see if physicality is an issue for Djokovic in the late stages here despite having played more tennis than Thiem so far.

Pretty sure not even the most rabid vamosalaplayans bought the voodoo virus excuse. It was obvious he just wanted to have an edge over everyone else at RG (like he needed it anyway). They're just playing along now because they can't call out their hero no matter what.
