Fritz signs with BOSS

I guess that would explain his Head shoes in the video posted in the 2024 Sponsorship Changes thread.

I have the feeling Nike is pulling out, just like they are doing with golf. Have a handful of big names and that’s it. I don’t think tennis and golf are sadly a priority/moneymaker for them
Or more likely they're trying to kill some or most of retail channel performance wear, only to resurface 2y later with most of tennis stuff on their webshop only, with 4x margins and somewhat better quality. Or something similar. They'll try and try until they find a way. And then other brands will slowly follow

Every piece they sell directly is way more profitable to Nike, and others, investing in retail channels lines is just not interesting anymore. Sportswear/fashion sold directly is hugely more profitable, and all brands are trying to bring actual performance wear to direct sales. So they'll likely try to kill it all via thousand micro cuts, until only cheap stuff remains in retail channels, and all the good stuff becomes available via direct sale only

Seems like a win for Fritz
I expected him to end up with one of those brands I don't recognize. J lindberg or something along those lines

They are cutting back for sure. Dumping Tiger was a big move and IMO not the smartest but what do I know.

This has been going on a while. They used to make their own golf clubs, that's been done for 5-6 years now right?

They also announced 1500 layoffs so this is going on across the board. It isn't just that they hate tennis

Keep in mind Alcaraz is getting $1mm/year until 2026. Obviously they're gonna have to back the truck up for him after the massive deal they gave a less successful player...they are getting ready to give Alcaraz $175-200mm over ten years if I had to guess

Been out of golf gear since 2016 - two major players (Koepka and Finau) still using a Nike club. It’s a shame, the hard goods are great. I love my court tech bag and matching duffel. What a shame where the company has ended up

F golf, that sport can stop existing tomorrow and I'd be fine.

Yeah the Nike bags were great. Those Court Tech 1s go for big $$.

But their clothes from 2015-23 have been just incredible. They feel and hang so much differently than other manus. And their designs age better.

How many slams does someone who’s better than “less successful” win in the last year?

Most of the top U.S. guys still have such a frat boy, bro vibe I’m not sure this is good for Boss.
I see this as the exact Boss vibe. In the wild, I've never seen anyone wearing Boss that made me think "that guy looks calm, reserved, educated and classy," it's literally just AMG up-badging dudes wearing 3 pounds of cologne with a shirt that says BOSS as large as possible.

LOL, entirely accurate point. I guess I still nostalgically, eroneously associate the brand with the more staid Hugo Boss stuff. Plus, the whole frat bro thing annoys the hell out of me. Funny aside: I was taking a break from work and listening to your bit with Tennisnerd when I got the board notification about your comment. You're everywhere, man.

All Nike would have to do is ….

1. Take who ever is head designer for Nike tennis apparell and fire them asap .

Step 2. Take who ever is head designer for the golf and soccer departments for Nike and merge their position into one and hire them as the new Nike tennis apparell design director.
