Don't know if this was already mentioned but Dmitry Tursunov is doing the weekly player blog on the ATP site. His first post is long and very funny, check it out on the ATP website.......

That's indeed a very funny blog and this guy has some talent in writing plus a good sense of humor as it seems.
His statement about clay courts made me laugh out loud: "I think the only natural habitat for this surface is on Mars so they should change Roland Garros to hard courts and make a clay tournament on Mars!" Guess Nadal will raise an objection.

Wow, a player with a sense of humor! What a great read.

So I went to the supermarket and bought some water and some cherry juice! Why you ask?! Because I like cherry juice!!!

never seen someone, who has such different personalities on and off the court  - I think I can actually start to root for him now ;)
really great Blog, very funny the best one so far!

my favorite quotes:

They want to have omelet but just egg whites, not the yolks. They like margarine but not butter. They like their forks and knives balanced to their racquet specs so that it has the same swing weight.

My first hit is with Vince Spadea! Arguably the best rapper on the circuit! Probably because he is the only one who tries it and everyone is too tired of asking him not to. So we just let him do it. We start off by throwing rhymes at each other and after I out-battle-rap him he asks for 2 out of 3.

Even better things to come...from the Estoril site "Safin and Tursonov will be writing a blog...." now that should be REALLY funny.,

Good stuff. Refreshing!

They like their forks and knives balanced to their racquet specs so that it has the same swing weight. <-- really cracked me up :D

I really like the whole ATP Blogging idea. Good job, whoever thought of that!

Very good stuff by Tursunov. I really like the blogs as well. It was a great idea.

He is one of the guys that had to work extremely hard to get where they are. It's a miracle he made it to where he is in the rankings, last year or some such he was still buying his racquets like some Joe Shmoe from the local club, he had no sponsor when he beat Henman at Wimby. He is a very humble guy.

I don't believe it, his monday entry actually tops his first one...great!

Then we got a break in the second and at 3-1 up we lost my serve. Actually, I shouldn’t say we, because I had nothing to do with it! I went to get some water and fresh towels and while I was gone Marat managed to lose the game.

And the second question - I’m NOT joking! - was, “What do you think about Marat?” Ummm… I’m speechless…. I wonder if the journalist woke up today and thought to herself… “Hmmm… I wonder what would be a good question for Dmitry?! I know!!! How about I ask him what he thinks about Marat!!! Yes, yes! That is indeed a brilliant question!!! I must write it down before I forget it! How didn’t I think of it sooner?!”

funny indeed ! :D
i'm wondering how much time he takes for writing this...

he has a good draw so let's hope he wins some matches and goes on entertaining us ! ;)

What a great way to start the day...ROTFL. That guy is a brilliant comedy writer, and should tennis fail him, he has a another career.

"The match was a bit awkward the first few games because this is our first time playing together and Marat doesn’t really understand the concept “my side/your side.” He tends to think that his forehand is much better than my backhand so I had to convince him otherwise. Thanks to me and my ability to convey logic to the two-meter embodiment of a female’s dream, we won the first set 6-3. "

So so funny.......

LOL Dmitry rocks! I didn't think he'd have much of a humour, but he can write really well and he is hilarious. Can't wait for tomorrows installment.

Some funny stuff. One of my hitting partners sort of knows Tursunov and has hit with him. Last time we hit he said he "needed" to get Dmitry to hit with him more often so that he can raise his (not Tursunov's) level. I thought that was kind of strange to expect a top 100 pro to hit with you so you can win a round in a So Cal open tournament, but hey...

Said you can hit with him/Dmitry but that if you give him any time at all, he just cranks it. Like he can rip the crap out of the ball. I don't know if he really got an accurate read, though, considering I'm sure he was playing at 50% for my friend's benefit.

who is going to be the first to use his blog pic as an avatar??

haha mwoi!

I'm glad you guys thought it was funny too. I think he's maybe one of the funniest athletes--I've never heard an athlete say so many funny and witty things.

Yeah..that's my fav quote also. The guy is hilarious :D I also think I'm going to root for him now. That is so funny..great sense of humor.

I laughed out loud reading his blogs! Does anyone know if there is a way to comment to the players on their blogs? I can't find a general email on the ATP site. Any help would be appreciated.

His blog is pure gold.

My favorite line:

"He didn’t want to take a water bottle as a deposit...". LMAO!

man I would've never guessed he was so funny, he's russian right? must be cuz he grew up in cali (kidding) but wow that is some good stuff.

He's pretty funny for a Russian. Must have taken some lessons from Yakov Smirnoff.
In my experience, Russians are usually funnier than the average American.

"I apologized, and then we talked strategy for our next match and it was so great to really have a good heart-to-heart talk without all the girls running over and handing phone numbers to me and asking me to pass it to Marat!"

"I braided his hair and he talked about this cute bag he bought at Louis Vuitton store! Unfortunately he had to leave soon for a warm-up so I hugged him good bye and wished him luck! He is soooo cute when he pouts!!!"

lol this guy is hilarious.

You wind that guy up and he just won't quit. Not only is he funny, he's also very clever and he knows how to write.

I don't lknow it I want him to win the tournament (hello Marat) but either way the acceptance speeches would be one for the books.

And if they won doubles! They would roll off the podium laughing.

Love this blog...I haven't laughed so hard since....I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at a piece of writing.

I owe whoever at ATP that asked Dmitry to blog a big THANK YOU!!!!

I've never seen any blogs this funny it is simply unbelievable!!! Reading what he has to say has became the first thing I do when I check into my office and I hope Dmitry can open up his own COLUMN on ATP's Website SOON!!!!

I hope he'll continue his blog for a while. Just freakin funny this guy.
I am wondering if it's a translation or if he is really able to write so well in english as a russian that is.
Anyway, in the next tournaments I will keep my fingers crossed for him.

Ive been a fan of Tursunov's game for a long time but never though he was so funny. Its interesting because he's so unbelievably stoic on the court, zero emotion even after he wins. Proves you cant judge a book by its cover.

I watched his match at the Pac Life this year (vs Andreev) from about 10 ft away. Andreev hit a down the line forehand winner, way inside the lines and Tursunov looked at it and then at the linesman and just said them "Call that out". It was kinda funny but I had no idea he was the next Seinfeld.

I think he is writing that himself without any translation. If I'm not wrong, I believe he lives in California. And, I believe Brad Gilbert once even said that Tursunov was considering becoming a US citizen in the future.

LOL at:
"After the match I went for a little run in the park and then got a massage and a stretch. I’d say that’s the hardest part of the day. You know… The massage… We are all fighting in there for massage time and fans don’t really see it but there are some scary cat fights between Marat and Massu. Jerry Springer should have a “Locker Room Special”"

I agree. I read it today and was howling. I now want him to win the US Open (sorry, Rafa) so he can go on Letterman and probably outdo him. *lol*

ROTFL again..Nothing is sacred to this guy...Who is this poor WTA Katrina who is chasing Marat? Srbotnik? Poor girl, all her tactics exposed..changing courts, stalking him...and DT laughing at her and then the blogs all posted on the walls of the hotel lobby. He is TOO much.

He has lived in USA for years and I'm sure must have gone to school there..no translation from Russian would turn out like this. This is written by him in English and I'm sure it just rolls off his pen...and rolls..and rolls... he's a great story teller.

Keep winning Dimitry... MORE MORE MORE blog
