Future Job and Tennis. (To all adult and elite tennis players out there, too)

Hello, I am currently a freshman in college who is obsessed with tennis. I am debating on what my job should be in the future. Lately, I have been thinking about pharmacy. This has a lot of things I would want in it. I have also debated over Exercise Science and Political Science. However, another thing to look at is the fact that I want to become an elite tennis player (at least 5.5 I'd say). I worry that my future occupation will give me no time to do what I want to do with my life (especially since I will probably have a wife and kids). With Pharmacy I would have good hours, good money, and a good job, but who really knows. I change my mind frequently. Any advice?

And yes, I realize I have the weirdest threads on this website, but any advice would be warranted.

You need a 9 to 5 job with weekends off, and no travel, if it is a physical commute job, or fixed flex hours if it is a virtual commute. As simple as that.

It's pretty hard to find a job with a degree in political science. Unless, you'll go into law, you're going to have a hard time finding employment.

Since you're only a freshman, don't think too much about your future employment. Take a variety of classes and choose what you want to do.

Even though you're obsessed with tennis, I highly advise you to not choose a job based on how much time off it'll give you. Having a lot of time for tennis at the cost of doing work you don't like will be detrimental.

So my advice is take many different classes in many fields (humanities and sciences), and decide what you want to do.

What level are you now?

If you are a freshman, you have at least 3.5 years of the easiest job in existence (as long as partying doesn't get in the way of your tennis).

If you are still not 5.5 after this, well, that is why God invented Grad school

I only started 8 months ago, I have come along well apparently. Probably 3 or 3.5 at this point. I want to get so much better.

I would say High School Teacher would be very receptive to Tennis. Work 7-3 get 2 months off in the summer. Heck if your GF/Wife gets mad cuz you play too much tennis you coach the team and have an excuse to be on a court everyday.

Teachers just dont get paid upper echelon. Its a decent living though and I cant see any schedule beating that unless youre self employed and call the shots.

I'm going with registered nurse. You'll make $40/hr+ in many cities, choice of working 3 12hr shifts vs. 5 8hr shifts, and the job market is always good. My wife is an RN and when she was working would rarely even use paid time off. Her boss would let her work 3 days in a row early one week,then the last 3 days of the week the next week when she wanted. That's an instant week of vacation without using paid time off. Then she would cash in her PTO at the end of the year.

Look, I am going to talk to you like a Dutch uncle, and set you up straight.... With the future coming up here is what I would do if I had anything on the ball (and I assume looking at pharmacy means you do).

Why get out of school in hock with all the loans and no job? Don't be a smuck, with the liberal or fine arts (farts).... Unemployment for recent college grads highest in recorded history.
Get your butt into NROTC- Study Applied nuke phyics (energy), bob around on the Regan for a few years as an officer and a gentleman...

THEN when you get out America will have bet heavy on nuclear energy as the future...Bingo, bango, bongo- There is 100(k) to start for bringing us into line.
Then play tennis all you want, only with money falling out of your nike shorts.

there is no free lunch. good money (don't know what is good money for you) means many hours either at school, grad school and/or at work.

you can go the "Moz" way. if i were young and unmarried i will probably take reverse retirement for a few years.

Being a pharmacist would be an excellent pick for you. We used to joke with each other that pharmacy is the highest paid part-time job in America. Check it out, you can get a job pretty much anywhere in the country at good pay.

Maybe an airline pilot. They make pretty good money and I believe they are limited on flight hours by the FAA.
