FYI for Fans of Golden Set Strings

This is just a FYI for fans of Golden Set strings... Just discovered and think it's interesting that Golden Set has a branding factory & plant in Taiwan, which allows them a say in their own blends, formulas, materials, etc, the results of which I guess are top quality strings, LOW PRICES, and a hardcore tennis player fan base. Requesting Comments and More Info from other Golden Set fans (or not  !?

Please Note: I did not start this tread...

From what i remember:
Golden Set is basically OEM or rebadged or "store brand" Zons strings. Zons is a string company out of Taiwan which markets strings in other parts of the world
I believe it has no other North American distributors or dealers. Hence...Golden Set..

There is a string out there for all of us...
Find what works best for you...

I think that is great. Playing with Power Cord in crosses in gut/poly hybrid at the moment. Only 1 hitting session so far but really liking it. I have a pack of Snake Bite and Snake Bite smooth as well which I will try next.

Hey @ haqq777 in that case you might really like Power Cord on the Mains @ 53 lbs or less. Here's my notes on this setup - Arm Friendly, Good Control-Power-SweetSpot-Spin, lasts a long time. I just ordered a new reel of Power Cord 17g -- no longer buy Snake-Bite or Hex.

I first bought the sampler pack and then bought a reel of Power Cord (this was a while ago). I would agree with everything you said above....It is really nice string. Did not like snakebite or hex which were both too stiff for my tastes.

I have reels of Snake Bite, Hex Poly, Powercord, Velvet and Syngut from Golden Set. I use Powercord mostly for people who want soft strings. For those who don't mind a stiffer string and play with spin I put Snake Bite. I've never heard any negative feedback from people I string for. They all love it.

Just wondering ~ how many peeps come back for Hex?

I haven't found an opportunity to use Hex to any of my clients yet. I mainly use Snakebite, Powercord, Velvet and Syngut. But I do have it on my POG 107 as hybrid with syngut at 43lbs and I don't have any complaints.

Just tried HexPoly as mains on my POG 107 at 43 with SynGut in crosses. It wasn't bad. It's got good grip for spins.

I played with Hex for a while, but I find it a bit too stiff for my taste. However I do vaguely recall something about it being the formula changing and being softer from a few years ago, maybe someone can confirm. I remember Snake bite being pretty stiff, too.

I've been using Power Cord because it's softer, I find it very similar to Signum Pro Hyperion. Has anyone tried their overgrips? I like Yonex Supergrap, but I don't know if either of their overgrips are similar.

Have you checked their website recently? There's some new versions and strings introduced.

They're OK ~ pretty much as good as Yonex ~ much better than Tourna grip ~ but IMO nothing beats Gamma Supreme which is even better than Wilson.

I have checked their website, but the descriptions don't really mention anything about changes in composition.

Do you know which of their overgrip is like the Yonex, the Hydrex or the Adhesa? I've tried the Gamma, but I find it a bit too dry and thin for my taste.

There are NEW models of Snake Bite and Multifilament both of which incorporate new composition. I thought there might be even more. Then again I'm now a dedicated Power Cord fan.

FYI the key word is "SUPREME" ~ Gamma Supreme is not at all dry and the thickest on the market. Tourna Grip however is extremely dry. As per Golden Set not sure about Hydrex, but got the Adhesa which is pretty good as per my last post. Why not order a package of both just to try?

Snake Bite not good. Breaks fast. Players aren't even hard hitters. Very disappointed. Will not be buying this anymore. But impressed with Power Cord's feel and durability. I've never had anybody of the hard hitters and oversize users come back to me for premature breakage.

Power Cord feels and plays amazing and is really durable. Low friction, great spin. It is similar to Luxilon Alu Power in that it's amazing fresh, but loses tension and goes dead fast. Great string for advanced tournament players that restring often.

I agree. I have had Power Cord in my inventory for a while now but only used it for others sparingly as it's smooth and soft and people often ask me about RPM Blast equivalent (that's why I put in Snake Bite). The real test for me was one heavy spin player coming back after a year of having Power Cord 17 on his Pure Drive for a restrung because he was starting to lose control. I couldn't believe it but there it was. While with Snake Bite I've had 3.5 players come back to me in two weeks due to the strings breaking. I've had experiences of Hex Poly snapping early too. So I'm dropping Snake Bite and Hex Poly and keeping Power Cord. Their Syn Guts are not that bad but still below average to me in terms of durability.

Is there a goldenset poly that has lower power and/or more spin than Snake Bite (textured)?
So my current setup is Snake Bite/Velvet. It is super comfy but I would like to lower the power a little bit.
Obviously, I can increase the tension but that could decrease the comfort level.

That's about all they have. Snakebite textured and smooth, Hexpoly, and Powercord for polys. But for people with your requirement I use Weiss Canon Ultra Cable.

Thanks for the reply.
I have tried stiffer poly (Gosen Polyon). The spin is ridiculous but it is a little too stiff for me. Is Weiss Canon Ultra Cable similar to Gosen Polyon?

Sorry, I have not tried Gosen Polylon so can't compare.

@Pmasterfunk sent a reminder about this thread therefore *bumping* it. KEEP IT UP which keeps our costs DOWN!!

Looks like there's overwhelming support for Power Cord, & not so much for all others, which guess can be good or bad! lol

Snake bite was on the radar back in 2012 I think for me . Man. When I first discovered it I swore that it was the best string I’d ever used and would of played with it forever had I not have discovered pro blend ..

I found the Golden set strings (used: snake bite, the round poly, velvet), for me, (6.1 ncode, 16x18, 12.7 ounces, 10pts headlight) got lifeless pretty quick and moved away from them.

BUT, I absolutely love their overgrips. Very affordable, and more importantly, wear very slowly and evenly...a great tacky grip. (they have both types I think: tacky and dry).

What tension do you string? With low tensions (low 40s and 30s) tension maintenance is decent.

I did finally bite the bullet and tried their Adhesa overgrips, and I gotta say they're pretty good Supergrap-styled OGs, and for the price very hard to beat. I will buy a tub next time I order string, but my reel of Power Cord strung around 40# lasts a long time for me.

Sorry forgot to mention that: the 16x18 is pretty lively and seems more common in the west, seems like everybody else has the 18x20 (which I have never hit), and string much lower.

Because I find it lively with my setup, I string around 57 in summer and 55 in winter in the bubble, perhaps I should try going waaay down to check it out.

Thanks for the suggestion!
