game on grass: what's a winning strategy?

Hi all,

Since I am new to tennis world, I was wondering what is a good winning strategy to win on grass vs. hard or clay courts.

Unfortunately, i havent seen too many matches on grass. I did recently saw the 2001 match of fed vs. sampras and noted how SHORT points are. There is really no long baseline rallies. Moreover, many points come aowsome vollies, drop shots, and fast serves.

There are several strategies... but I'll say this...
Work on your serve. Try copying a Pro or take several different elements and create your own service action...
Work on a slice backhand that u can hit firmly, and that skids thru...
Every shot on grass counts, so be aggressive..
Oh and practise ur volleys til u can do it with one eye closed...

Play as usual, but attack the net more often, don't hit as much topspin, and slice sometimes. If you're lefty, really work the slice serve on the ad court.

It doesn't seem like you need to overhaul your entire game to win on grass anymore.

Don't try to figure out Wimbledon of today by referencing Wimbledon from the Sampras era. 2001 was the first year they switched to 100% rye, and players hadn't figured out how to adjust their strategies yet.

Today, modern grass is understood to play more or less like a fast hardcourt. The power baseline strategy that works all fall on the US hard court circuit also works at Wimbledon. The only real difference is that the irregularity of the natural surface puts a higher premium on natural reflexes, talent, athleticism, etc. Which is why even though Fed dominates the fast hard courts, he REALLY dominates the grass.

I agree. Grass really rewards natural shot maker, and palyer with great anticipation.
