Game Plans: How would you beat the top 30.

(sorry if this thread has already been done I did do a search).

So how if you had to do a game plan to beat the top players what would you do. Obviously you'd have the professional level of skill to put this game plan into action.

Some are obvious for example. Like Federer - play to his backhand a lot and it will break down eventually if he is not at his best. Or alternatively dress up as Nadal.

Del Potro - mix it up a lot as his play is quite one dimensional.

Roddick - return his serve lots

Others are more difficult, how would you plan to beat Nadal for instance?

To beat Nadal, I would request to play on red clay since that is my best surface and I would aim to get into long rallies preferably forehand to forehand and try to breakdown his forehand.

lol the roddick one is pretty dumb... "return his serves alot" no really? u gotta return anyones serves alot if u want to win right... what u gotta do with roddicks returns is chip it in short and lure him into the net coz he isnt that great there. his backcourt rallying skills is underrated, u cant beat him in rallies as often as u think.

My plan:

Get 100% first serves in.
Ace every time.
Return only to break once in the set.
Otherwise sit on the side and eat a banana.

if played against nadal i would mess with his bottles, against djokovic i would hit him in the leg "accidently" so that he retires, against murray i would talk dirty against his mother so that he gets pissed of an gets disqualified and against federer i would emulate nadal

and if you can beat the top 4 you can beat probably anyone else in the top 30

Nice thread.

Federer: obviously, huge topspin to his backhand.
Nadal: flat aggressive groundstrokes that make him go too much defensive. NOT going to the net before achieving this.
Djokovic: slowing down the game to break his pace (and make the match longer).
Nalbandian: similar to Djokovic.
Del Potro: mixing shots as someone said before, make him run side to side and not allow him to settle down.
Gasquet: Just fighting every point to make him work his @ss off and force him to be the one who constructs points and takes risks.

that's not a plan, that's grasping at straws.

and if your first serve went in every time, that would mean it was too slow.

Nadal:

-Flat, aggressive drives to both corners, moving him side to side and back.

-Then, after I have gotten him back I would hit a short angled crosscout forehand or short angled backhand slice crosscourt and when he gets to that, if he does, a big forehand down the line or an inside in forehand and approach the net if it's not a winner already, probably would be a winner.

-Off of his serve I would try to hit as many angled returns as possible, taking him out of court or straight down the middle.

-On my serve I would hit alot of wide slices on the deuce side and down the middle on the ad.

I was going to post the other 3/4 of the top four but am too tired and lazy. Will do it 2mro when I wake up. lol.

Fed- play a lot of D and attack the bh.
Nadal- .......I dunno.
Monfils- shut down the forehand, and we're in business
Davydenko- keeping lobbing so he can't reach the ball
Nalbandian- pray to god that he doesn't want to win

Actually you could win a match without returning one single serve.

Against Nadal, I would get into a short/slice ball battle. Everything low and short and make him come to net every chance I got--even on clay. I'd hope I was on fire and try and pass him every chance I got and if I could not hit a passing shot the first time--I'd lob him and start over again trying to get him to net. He's a beast--beating him at the baseline is a tough challenge.

If I were playing Gasquet--I'd just let him win the first two sets easily and then win the next three sets. He's not very good in five-setters....

ROFL BEST strategy ever. Roddick should try it :)

If I took the tennis advice of the armchair TW geniuses here I would just stick my racket out and block all balls back. I'd win every rally and every match that way. I'd be the new G.O.A.T. There wouldn't be any talk of the "Big Four" it would be just the Big One, me.

Del Potro: Take time away from him by coming to the net. Give him a lot of low slices. Serve well.

Nadal: Be aggressive. Take time away from him. Find ways to open up the court. Serve really well.

Roddick. Make very few errors and be aggressive when need be, Roddick is not going to hit a winner off of you. Get his serve in play and hit to the backhand. Get him up to the net.

Federer: Break down the backhand. Get a lot of balls back in play.

Murray: Be aggressive. Attack the second serve and the forehand.

i dont agree with your last sentence, look at nalbandian: he can beat the top 4 every time he want to, but he loses against players between the top 30 and 150

Are you being sarcastic? I mean, I hope you're being sarcastic.

I would try to offer anyone weed. I'll use peer pressure like "hey Rafa if you hit this, your knees will be more stronger" or "Come on Roddick it will help you win another grand slam"

Against Nalbandian I'd place very tasty looking donuts on my seat. He would be distracted maybe he would even offer to tank the match for them.
