I absolutely love my original IBM Model M but I plan on getting a leopold 10keyless soon for my dorm. Probably brown switches.

All around, I like Browns. The Model M requires a lot of force to actuate, might not be great for fast paced gaming. Cherry Blues are by far my favorite switch, though. If I had a KB dedicated for work, it'd be browns. Currently I'm using a red board, because I lent the brown one to my brother.

I have a LOT of mech keyboards...

ABS M1 w/ swapped out ALPS Whites (didn't like blacks, and found a dumpster dive donor board for new switches). Controller sucks, but this is probably my favorite key feel.

iOne Scorpius M10 - Cherry Blue, cheap board. Stabilizers squeak. Not bad for a first/cheap Mech, but there are MANY more options nowadays than there were when I bought it. Swapped keys from a Cherry OEM board, now it's a Cherry Brown board. Lent it to my brother, hopefully i get it back someday. Better to get something along the lines of:

Coolermaster QuickFire Rapid (TKL). Costar OEM (Filco). Very solid build quality, obnoxious branding (I heard they're toning it down). Frequently runs <$70, highly recommend it if you won't miss the ten keys. (Gamers). Blues are a great switch for typing, and I personally feel that they are great for gaming, too. The actuation point is a little bit lower than the release point, so you may be at a disadvantage if you are very, very rapidly hitting keys (RTS, IMO).

Leopold w/ Cherry Reds: Good board, don't like red switches that much, even for RTS. Too sloppy, accidental keypresses all over the place. Switch action is just too light. I brought this board in to work, added O-rings to quiet it down a little bit. Vague key feel, prefer browns.

Razer BlackWidow w/ blues: Hate macro key placement. I'm a touch typist, and I hit the macro keys when going for the CTRL key. HATE it. Board is obviously lower quality than Tier 1 mfgrs, but it's a pretty OK keyboard.

Chicony ALPS (baby) Blue: Awesome key feel, but PS/2, so I don't use it. Plan to design a custom keyboard around these switches.

IBM Model M: PS/2, no windows key, too "old school" for my tastes. Key feel is excellent, tactility is excellent, but I won't really use this, it's just a "collector's item" for me.

Dell AT101W - Black Alps (complicated). Feel way better than simplified Black ALPS, but I feel the key bump less than with Cherry MX Browns. PS/2, so I don't use.

Other misc boards that aren't notable - a few :)

I always thought the original Ninja Gaiden for NES was the hardest game for me.

Its to this day the only game I tried to beat and didnt. I mean I tried and tried with the game but never even got close.

Then I finally beat it with an emulator where I could save state every two minutes.

But that was when I was young enough to be able to play nonstop all the time. I simply dont have the time to invest in playing these super hard games to get good at them. In Dark Souls case the story if better could have kept my interst a bit longer. But that game aint my style anymore.

Ninja Gaiden series was haarrrrd no kidding.

Any retro/vintage game or hardware collectors out there? If so what is your most valuable item?

Myself I have a cartridge of EarthBound for the SNES. They sell for about $125-$150 on auction site. I paid $5 years ago.

What a great game, the first with "cutscenes" and cinema. The last level was indeed ultra hard as you had to start so far back after you died. The secret was to keep the Spin Slash move, which defeated Jacqui and the Alien thing at the end super quick.

Sweet,

I have meant for years to get a ROM and play the game. Poeple talk it up so much.

I have brand new boxed Steel battalion with the 40 button controller and all that. I opened the box once to look at it. It sat in storage for years never played. Now I debate whether to sell it or pull out my old Xbox and play the thing.

Its a shame they never made other games that used the controller. Probably a develpment nightmare though.

Also have an old nintendo R.O.B somewhere. Just have gyronmite though no stack up.

I'm playing "TRIBES ASCEND", a fast paced FPS.

It's a free 2 play game, that scored a very high 86 on metacritic review site.

Release few months back on steam.

Here is the link and video to game play.

So many games, not enough time!

Played the Medal of Honor Beta, it's pretty good. I might pick it up as a change of pace.

Might also look at x-com for the xbox as my laptop was a little too slow in running the demo off of steam. Then there's Halo 4 and Black Ops 2 might actually get me back to COD.

Preordered Halo 4 and Bops 2. Not sure how much time I will have to play, but should keep me busy gamingwise for the next 4-5 months.

Any suggestions for deal alert sites - sites that will send you an email if they find a deal?

Trying to track down an 12-month Xbox Live membership on the cheap. Missed the $30 deals a few days ago.

Finished up Dragon Warrior IV again on NES recently. Just started up Mother 3 on Gameboy Advance a few nights ago. Seems to be a good game so far, looking forward to playing more :)

I'm playing Torchlight 2 and am a little shocked by the amount of time I've spent on it. I know it's a mindless, simplistic clickfest... but something just makes me want to keep playing.

Mostly playing Black ops 2 online. Going to check out Far Cry3. Tried Halo 4, but could not get into the MP for some reason. SP was pretty good though.

Funny you mention Halo 4 as for some reason I actually like it more than the other Halo games and I own them all. I think its the character progression that I like. Black Ops II at least for me seems better than MW3 and I really dig the pick 10 system for multiplayer. Does anybody play Battlefield 3 on here? That game for me has consumed so many hours of playing for me. I really like the Close Quarters and Aftermath expansion packs. Armored Kill is decent but the maps are simply too large for consoles. Need more than 12 players a side to make them feel populated.

Can anyone explain the popularity of Minecraft? The games looks like graphics from 15+ years ago. I was watching my kids play it and I don't get it. Survival mode has been done in other games and better. Creative mode looks interesting although it seems it would get boring after awhile. The single player has no real storyline and the multi doesn't seem to have a point other exploring worlds that other people have made. Is there something I am missing?

I think for a lot of kids it's their first game that has a big open world to it. It's also very cool to see some of the places created or recreated from movies and such.

Dota 2 still the only game I'm playing right now.

So anyone here making the move to next gen consoles?

BF4 looked amazing at E3. Think I'm going PC this time.

New build this fall/winter and the go for a PS4 or Xbox One later next year once all the kinks are worked out.

I am getting the Xbox One on launch this fall along with BF4,Forza 5,COD Ghosts and Watchdogs. Love my 360 but really cannot wait for the new consoles to come out. Destiny, Titan Fall and Tom Clancys: The Division are guaranteed future purchases

Nice!

I need to upgrade my computer anyway so I'm going with a new build first. Gaming time is limited, so it's going to be BF4 and probably Titan Fall to start.

What MOBA do you suggest for someone who has never played one? I don't have huge amounts of time to play. DOTA2 and LOL seem too time intensive to learn and get good at.Anything more casual?

Funny I would pop into this thread today and see a question for me :)

Umm... I think Heroes of Newerth (HON) is the friendliest, but I'm not sure about the playerbase anymore. I never played it either, strictly dota 1 and dota 2. Also, no dota player is going to recommend playing league of legends. I think you need to pay to play as certain heroes also, that's just lame. However, it is a bit more friendly to newbies with some of the changes to mechanics from dota.

Give dota 2 a try. There are some training guides and modes that will help out. There's the guides, bot mode, playing with a "buddy." But like you've said, there is an absolute ton of game mechanics and such that you will have to learn. Need to know basically every hero and their role in a game, what items to make, and how to counter them. Learning how to last hit/deny creeps, positioning in fights, etc. If you have a friend that already plays though it's the best way to start. They'll advise you on some good heroes to start with and what to do.

Let me know if you decide to play. I can give a somewhat decent idea of how to start off.

I'm playing,

Battlefield 2 Series
Battlefield 2142 and Northern Strike
Command and Conquer III Tiberium Wars
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2

kotor 2 is good up to like the last couple of planets (I'll try to avoid spoilers but there is a hole or two in the plot line). if you haven't played kotor 1 yet you need to. I like it a lot better than 2 but 2 has slightly better gameplay/ game mechanics...

...btw, if you dig the kotors, you may dig the star wars mmo the old republic. it comes in a free-to-play format (you don't have to subscribe but subscribers get more in-game benefits and content). I've been dabbling with it and it's kinda fun! a bunch of kotor references.

I'm not well versed on MOBAs, but LoL has free to play (rotating) characters, and you can get in-game points (free). I think you start out with enough RP or whatever-points to bu most characters you'd want to start with. If you take a particular liking to any starter character you could just buy them. I can't compare to dota since i've never played. (I'm more of a SC2 guy)

It just doesn't make sense as a game model to me. Like if goober wants to play dota, then I can say try out heroes like Nyx assassin, Lich, Zeus, because I know they are available to everyone and they're relatively easy to learn. Those are actually heroes I'd recommend to start off with also ;) Lich especially, he's one of the first heroes I learned how to play and when played well he is a great asset to the team with his built deny spell and good spell damage.

I'm not an early adopter, and I'm not willing to blindly invest hundreds of dollars to become one. I'll probably make a jump after the first year, but till then I'm happy with the current gen consoles and my PC's. There's still tons of games to be played on both platforms and not many release titles that really catch my eye.

Finally built my gaming PC so that I could play RTW 2. So far, I've been badly disappointed. But for anyone playing dota, get at me on steam

Is it just me or are more people going back to game on PC as the next gen consoles release?

Not playing dota, but I am playing BF3 and I'm ready for BF4. Picked up XCom Enemy unknown and Mark of the Ninja on sale. Already loving to sales on PC games. If you aren;t playing for multi-player you can just wait and get games super cheap. Waiting for Far Cry 3 to drop even more.

I think more people are starting to realize that the cost-benefits of a pc are just generally better than anything the consoles are putting out. The hardware can be pricey, but you're easily saving way more money with what games you can buy. The prices during steam sales and on greenmangaming are dirt cheap and more than justify the otherwise hefty investment in a rig. Then again, I think it also reflects hardcore gamers withdrawing from the console market that's now trying its hardest to appeal to the casual consumers.

IMO you really don't need that good of a PC rig to run most games these days. I have a 4 year old PC that can run almost any PC game I own at near max settings-well settings that look better than xbox or PS3 in any case. I think the cost justification is less and less of an issue for using consoles. Before you had to upgrade or videocard or your CPU or both sometimes just to play the newest games. I think that is becoming less and less the case.

Paid $20 for FC3. Short and sweet storyline. 7.5/10.

Would i buy or play it again, probably not. Save your money.

Console owners are considered the hardcore gamers. Mobile/tablet devices are now casual gamers.

PC gamers are dinosaurs. Cost of midrange/high end gpu hardware has spiralled as the market rapidly shrinks and unless there's a revolution (oculus rift) in user interface and interactivity that can't be achieved in front of lounge tv. Gaming PC will be dead by '15.

$20 for FC3? Where and which platform? I could go for a decent single play campaign. I liked FC2, except for the endless checkpoints that repopulated when you moved 5 feet down the road.

I don't know if it's so much the death of PC gaming as much as a shift in form factor and being able to have the power of a full PC in a smaller package. M-ATX and ITX gaming PCs are really popular now days.

The new consoles are based on PC architecture which means that next gen games are really going to run well on the PC instead of being bad console ports. Really consoles are just locked down PCs at this point, running a customized AMD APU.

If they ever develop an APU that can pack the punch of a full discrete video card, I think that should further reduce the cost of PC gaming and increase the appeal such as being able to run graphic intensive games on a laptop or mobile device while not having sacrificing the functionality that you would in a pure gaming console.

FWIW - I'm seeing quite a few people going back to PC while waiting for the market for the next gen consoles to shake out.

Want to game in the living room? All you need is an HDMI cable. ;)

Are you for real? You must be trolling. Don't try to tell me that the gimmicky move peripherals like the Move and Kinect were for "hardcore gamers"? LOL. And I guess the Wii was definitely targeting the demographic of hardcore gamers too right? Anyone can get a decent midrange gaming rig for 600 in parts, a "mindblowing" $200 more than a PS4 and $100 than the Xbox One with a Kinect that no one asked for. If anything, it's becoming more and more affordable, with "high end" rigs easily coming in at $800-$900, maybe even less if you're patient. PC gaming is doing OK, and people have been trying to predict the end of PC gaming for years. There's over 50 million active users on steam, so the PC gaming market is very much alive.
