Gamma 5003 maintenance

I've acquired an older but basically unused and spotless 5003. The only issue is the turntable does not spin freely, before I clean out the plastic sleeve and oil the turntable spindle/ pin is there any specific recommendations or actions that folk take?

@Gamma Tech ?

Thanks in advance

My Gamma 6004 spun too freely or more than I think it should, but that never was an issue. First I would download the OM from Gamma (https://gammasports.com/support/#1546528315812-cb011f0d-c426.) Clean the machine well, check and adjust tension if necessary, check and adjust the LO Brake if necessary, then make sure the clamp surface is clean and adjust for your string, and clean and adjust the clamp bases.

If your turntable is not spinning freely it sounds like the bearing in the top of the base post may be messed up. @Gamma Tech

What type of table brake does it have? If it's like my old 6002, you can hand-tighten the brake with a little lever to the desired resistance you want. If it's that style, maybe all you need to do is loosen the brake. My newer 6004 has a little switch that either engages the turntable brake completely or disengages it. If it's that style, you may have an issue with the bearing as Irvin mentioned.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Don't think it's a bearing issue. It's the screw knob brake. The turn table is fixed to a pin and rotates as a unit. The pin is set within a sleeve and turns within it. The brake goes through a hole in the sleeve and contacts the pin. I think it's friction between sleeve and pin as it feels a bit tacky. I'm thinking about degreasing with IPA and lightly oiling but just don't want to use something which may cause a further issue to the materials.
