Gamma 6004 6pt VS New Alpha Apex II

Currently I am using a Gamma X-ST (3 months old) with a Wise Tension Head. I am strongly considering selling my X-ST and moving on to an upright machine to be used with the Wise. I have narrowed it down to two machines:

Gamma 6002 6pt $1199.00

New Alpha Apex II $999.00

Which one should I buy and why?

The reason why I don't just get a stand, is because I now want a suspension mounting system, higher quality clamps, and better spring assisted bases.

just a quick FYI, the string clamps are the same on all the machines (except for 602FC), they are the die-cast aluminum clamps. The self-centering turntable, base clamps and mounting system on the 6004 are definitely a nice upgrade to the X-ST.

if you get the 6004 you will have used most of our equipment and you can be a good source of info for other people.

I would go with the Alpha Apex. Best after purchase support in the industry. Not even close.

It is all your preference. Gamma clamps feel more toyish, hollow when compared to the Alpha clamps which feel heavier, more solid (closer to Babolat).

Good idea on getting the suspension mounting.. it'll be a lot faster than before on 6 individual knobs.

I do not agree with the comment from: chrisplchs in regards to the quality of Gamma vs. Alpha. I feel that both companies make good quality clamps, and feel that both companies have very good support. I have dealt with both firms and have high regards for both. I currently own the Gamma 6004 and feel that this is a great quality product.

I don't know: GammaTech here has provided me with superb support for an aged Gamma Stringer I bought off the auction site. Providing support for decade(?) old machine purchased used over the Internet is pretty damn impressive.

My question is why would you spend $400 more for the Alpha Apex II, when the 6500 (http://www.eagnas.com/plus6500.html) has been on the market for a year.

At least with the Gamma 6004, for $200 more you get a better, faster, and easier 2 point mounting system.

It wouldn't matter to me if they were giving the 6500 away I would not even consider using it .. Get either the Gamma or Alpha and you won't go wrong. Now with the eagnas; with all the bad press, lack of support and quality issues it is amazing anyone would even mention a POS eagnas in the same context as Gamma or Alpha.. Good luck

Any idea why the tension head track arm is so long. It looks much longer than there other crank models...

I noticed that too. Maybe it has to do with the way the mounting posts extend far beyond the perimeter of the turntable. Maybe this could prevent the tensioner from operating properly unless it is backed off more, than on the other machines, from the turntable/mounting posts.

Is the Alpha Apex II even available ?? I was on a waiting list for a long time and it was never available. I am sure it is a good machine, but Gamma 6004 machines are available right now.

If you ever have to walk around the stringer it might be dangerous... Especially
if your used to a normal length tension arm.

The Alpha Apex II is available now, Mark from Alpha just sent me some pics of the new version. They changed the configeration due to some patent issues. The new version is on wheels and instead of two knobs controlling the suspension mounting system, it now has a lever which changes function of the single knob.

My first machine was an eagnas and I was able to string zero racquets on it, because it was D.O.A.. Then they had the nerve to try and charge me a rerstocking fee for machine that never worked. Do not due business with this shady company.

Supracool94, any chance of posting the pics of the Apex ll? I've got one of the origional Alpha Apex machines and was wondering what the changes were.

Post them here, I would like to see them...and so would many others. We have heard about the apex II for over a year (maybe 2).

I waited for an Alpha Apex II for many months before finally buying the 6004 6 Point. I am very happy with it if that helps. I also questioned part availablility if I ever needed one. I was told by Alpha that they ordered a certain amount of machines and the manufacturer kept delaying the shimpment. Dont know if they handle parts availability like they do machine availabilty but I did not want to chance it.I would not be happy if I had to wait for a part for that long. I am not bad mouthing Alpha just stating what happened to me. I have nothing against them.

I was in the same situation as you. If you are stuck between the Apex II and the Gamma 6004 6 point, I would go with the Apex II only if you are trying to save a little money. They are very similar machines. You will save some money on the adaptor for the Wise too.

I actually ended up with the Gamma 6004 2 point. I only chose this over the Apex II because I wanted a high end 2 pt mounting which Alpha did not have. I also was tired of waiting for the Apex II to come out, but they are definitely in stock now.

I never tried the Apex II base locks, but I will assume they are similar to the Alpha Revo. I think the Gamma base locks are smoother. You won't go wrong with either machine.
