Gamma ELS Stringing Machine

I haven't strung rackets for many years. I used to own an Ecktelon. I am about to buy a machine, think I want a "constant pull" electronic machine and have about decided on the "Gamma ELS". I would appreciate advice from people familar with this machine.

Just picked up the 5800 2 point..Super machine in all respects..solid as a rock.. was a little concerned about the two point mounting...This has proved to be a total non issue. Have strung about a dozen racquets with no distortion noted whatsoever. TW has a great package...

Difference in Gamma Progression ELS and Gamma Progression ES II +

Thanks Gammatech. My question at this point should I pay another $280 for the newer Gamma Progression ElS ($1279) vs the older Gamma X-ES and Progression ES-ll + models? Are there substantial differences?

*Very* nice machine. In the $2K +/- category, this has to be on anyone's short list.

the difference is in the electronics. they both have the same motor & gripper but the rest of the internals are different. The X-Es' tension is set by a spring. The Els uses a load cell & has our latest technology. there are many more features (pre-stretch, knot, speed, etc). You can expect the Els to pull within .5-1lb of the reference tension and the X-Es can be from 2-4lbs of the reference tension.

Can either electronic machine be adjusted or calibrated by the end user/owner?

I would go with the Progression Els with the keypad entry, and avoid the tension knob... I had some trouble with the knob on my 6500 Els.

If the budget allows it, I would go with the ElS.........we are in the 21st century.......a load cell is the way to go.

go with the load cell els. The older x-es models are so all over the place in tension i tried to calibrate one and after being used to my star 5 i just said screw it. It was a friends that I was doing afavor. I would rather own a crank over it. The new one sounds nice. Might me good for me to travel with...lol

all GAMMA electric/electronic & spring tension machines can be adjusted by the owner, some have less range than other, but in that case you can do it from inside (more specifically the 7500 & 8500).

I think this was discussed before, but the Mounting system and Base Clamps are different between the two. I don't remember if the tension heads were different between the two models.

Sorry. Meaning one is better? 5800 and 8800 machines.
The 8800Els has the self-centering turntable, suspension mounting arms, switch action base clamps & keypad to telephone keypad. pretty much all the features are to make mounting the rqt faster & save time.

You need to look at load cell makers in China not the entire machine maker. It will be very difficult to source the part from there. Your best chance is to find a load cell part here if you know the specs. Search the forum cuz there are threads on successful replacements.
