Tensions are interesting with Monogut ZX.
I read up and saw that tension loss is big in the beginning.
I used 58lb for the mains on my lockout machine with a 30sec hold on first pull, then release and repull and clamp off.
I started off with a full bed of Monogut ZX with the crosses done the same..
It dropped 8lbs over night! - According to Racquet tune.
You'd think it would be a rocket launcher but it wasn't!
Hated it. Dead, boring, little feel or power. Just dull! Played about 10 minutes with it!
I then removed the crosses and tried Prince Premier Touch in the crosses at 55 lbs (only a brief hold on the first pull).
That was a bit more lively but lacked feel and control. I've really only used it as a main before..
Played about 1.5 hrs with it.
Then I put Head Rip Control in at 53lbs (again only a brief hold on first pull).
My reasoning was, if the ZX was like a normal string it would be about 53lbs by now.
The overall string bed was 48lbs according to Racquet tune app.
Anyway, I absolutely love this combo.
Touch and feel returned, grip/bite on the ball for slices is great. Enough power for me yet the ball lands in.
After one doubles and one singles match session it's at 45lbs.
Strings are not getting out of shape yet.
Hope it remains playing well until the Head Rip Control frays.
Will probably remove the Rip Control only and restring until I feel the ZX mains havre given up - we'll see. I'm still learning Monogut ZX and its ways.
Some have said they even remove and reuse it!!
Not sure what to do with the Monogut ZX next time I string it in the mains. Don't want to be doing all the above every time to get what I like..[emoji849]
On the packet of ZX it says string 10-15% lower than normal.
That might be true of coming from a full bed of quality natural gut I guess.
Perhaps my first 58lbs was too high and the subsequent plays and restringings of the crosses got it down to where I like it.
Anyway, I played with Head Rip Control full bed some 7 years ago and liked it.
I like hybrids now, remembered it and read up, and thought to try it as a cross. I'm glad I did..
Later I'll try it as a cross to Natural gut (come spring).
I need a good damp court (clay) setup for autumn and winter coming now. Has to be easy on my arm and this ZX/Rip Control hybrid certainly is that..
