Gamma Progression 200 vs Klippermate

Athiker, you need to add a YouTube annotation on that video of yours (or write something in the video's description box), telling people it was only your 2nd or 3rd time stringing, and not to judge the Klippermate by that video. People who are deciding between the Gamma and Kmate are thinking that the Kmate takes forever to use because it doesn't have the Gamma ratchet. :|

Anyways, how has your experience been with the Kmate? Are you stringing racquets in like 30 minutes now?

I've had my Kmate for 2-3 weeks, and on my 6th string job I was able to do it in 1 hr 15 min, much faster than the 4 hours it took for my 1st string job . I probably would be working faster if 4 of those 6 string jobs weren't all different racquets. The 6th string job was a Prestige Pro, and those occupied CAP grommets were a pain.

No...not 30 minutes...yet! I don't get to string that often as I only string for myself. I also have the same issue you do with different racquets as most of my stringing is due to trying out different racquets and restringing them w/ the strings I want to try. The different patterns took a while at first but that's not really a big deal anymore. I also no longer have to pull out the laptop to see how to tie my knots!

I'm under two hours but over 1 hour for sure. Of course it depends on when I would start the timer. I have to gather the stuff, pull out the machine, clear the table, cue up a movie, show or radio station, check the pattern and string lengths and then get started. With a wife 3 kids and a dog there are inevitable interruptions so my sessions are not really speed sessions!

I will say I am much faster than that video now. Most of the time its 1 or 2 drops and I've got the length right, but occasionally I'll get off and it takes more. I'm more confident about racquet mounting, clamping tension, which holes to skip, weaving crosses (one ahead always), etc. I have much more trouble w/ poly than multi or even natural gut. Its just stiff and unwieldy. I kind of like the rhythm of doing it now and really enjoy the results when I know exactly how my racquet was strung. Best $50 purchase ever! I got mine used off the local "list".

Oh...I expanded my YouTube note and added a few annotations. I didn't even know how to do that until reading your post and looking. Thanks!

Athiker, great to hear your progress! I know what you mean about setting everything up, especially putting something on TV or listening to the radio (minus the wife and children, I'm not quite there yet, but some day haha).

I really like that you used the word "rhythm" to describe it. Perfect. Get into the groove of threading, tensioning, clamping, repeat. But poly definitely "cramps" that rhythm. I still have trouble tying knots with poly.

And man, great deal on the Kmate you got off the list! Total money saver, stringing for yourself.:)

Well, I've had the Gamma Progression 200 for about a week now, I've strung 4 racquets on it, and I have to say I like it.

I was really worried about not knowing what I was doing, but with the help of you guys and a youtube video, I figured it out pretty quickly.

While my crank stringer is definitely a lot faster, the 200 is really portable. That's pretty much what I wanted.

The stringer does have a lot of plastic, but I'm pretty sure that's what makes it so light. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a small, portable racquet stringer. The ratcheting component of the stringer is pretty cool. I'm sure it doesn't make a difference to people that use klippermates, but I'm happy I have it.

Thanks guys.

I like reading the discussions between the different stringers. I am going to get one real soon and like hearing the pros and cons of all the brands.

Happy you like it, Clxtennis. That is why I always only say that this is what I have (made a choice in my own way--maybe not for everyone), that it works for me (for how I use it for my "limited" stringings), and here are some basic tips easy to explain on the forum. Portability, the simplicity of the mechanism, and no requirement for power were important for me.
