Gamma Progression II vs X-2?

I used to own a Gamma X-2 drop down and loved it.
It's no longer available and now seems to be replaced by the Progression II model.
I noticed the only difference appears to the be the base? The Gamma X-2 base weight a ton.

Can anyone comment on the differences between the two and if the Progression II is a worthy replacement?

Thanks:)

I have some experience with both Gamma base types:

  • Both bases have a solid weight to them.
  • The X-2 has an extruded aluminum base with a drawer. Gamma's best accountants designed the Progression II base which is a casting with a cheap plastic cover. The plastic dents + cracks eventually.
  • The X-2 has a tool drawer and tray. Progression II has a tray only

The X-2 is still available at many retailers. Between the 2 Gammas I would go with the X-2.

At a similar price range, I would also consider the Eagnas Hawk 26 which has a better mounting system, has a brake, a linear string gripper, 360* rotation, comes with a better set of tools, and MUCH better clamps. The build quality is fine on Eagnas manual machines.

My first upgrade on any of these machines would be a starting clamp, followed by Stringway flying clamps.

The Gamma X-2 is still available you just have to do a Google search. The Progression and the X-2 for all intents and purposes are the same just different machine for different sellers.

Just to clarify, are we referring to the P II 602? Is there a model I'm unaware of?

I was assuming, based on the content of his post, that he was referring to the Gamma 200. And those that responded seemed to have made the same assumption.

Yes, referring to the red Gamma as dipicted in the pictures above.
I would have preferred to purchase the X-2 from TW, but not having any online, i will have to go the Amazon route.

I would also consider this, but Eagnas is not everyone's cup of tea. (I've owned one and was happy with it, but also happy i upgraded to Gamma). For the money vs. features, Eagnas can be a good buy.
