I got around to assemble this masterpiece today. After 3 yrs of tinkering with Eagnas 910, I had to have something sexier and with baby butt smooth curves. OMG, I longed for this beauty and its ability to operate effortlessly like a fine tuned race car. Enjoy...

Just curious, how do you feel about the cone lock bases?

Negative... those are not cones. They're spring locks that require less than 90 degrees of operation. And there's no slop in the lever what so ever.

Bump to my question mello. I thought all teh progressions were cone lock bases.

Sorry bro... didn't know it was directed to me. Well, I dunno. This is my first Gamma so I have no idea. By the looks of their machine lineup, all swivel base are quick action spring loaded locks. Which makes sense because why bother with cone lock when production cost for either are marginal.

Great to hear. So they're pretty easy to use then, eh?

Whoa shes a beaut : )

I'm jealous, but I"m happy with my Gamma ST I.Much similar except you have the nice swivel clamps and upgraded clamps.

Whats your first racquet you'll string on her? Pic?

Have fun!

Just to clarify those are cone lock bases.

Maybe I'm clueless... this to me is cone lock. Used it, don't like it.

This is spring action swivel lock, same as my 910. GAMMA is probably the hybrid of the 2 but much better than 910 for sho.

The Gamma are cone lock but are different from those of the 910. If you look at Gamma's clamps on the 6004 models, those are spring assisted.

Ok... call me a liar when I have both machines in the garage. Z-dude, unless you have the same Gamma quick action clamps, don't be too quick to conclude the statement. The fact is both Gamma swivel clamps are spring assisted. it's just that the new cam-locks on the 6004 are super quick action, 1/8 turn versus 1/4 turn.

Well just to tell you, I own an Alpha Apex II that has the spring assisted bases from alpha and a Gamma Progression II 602FC that has the same clamps you have.

Here's the manual from 602FC. How old is it? The manual indicates clamps as wing nut. Therefore, they're cone lock. But STIIs are spring action. Read the pic from manual in last pix.

That is the old manual. They never updated it. I own the later version with the same fixed clamps as you have.

The "spring assisted" in that context is different. In that context it is just a spring to help unlock the base.

OIC, if you would please explain the mechanics between all the different clamps so we all understand. And operationally how they differ from one to another. Thanks.

Edit:
Personally, the only one I haven't used is the Quick Action Cam but main differences are #1, near 180 degree rotation (half turn) without spring assistance. #2, about 60 degrees (1/8 turn) to lock and spring action allows the clamp to move freely when unlocked. My 910 clamps tends to give (rotate) slightly under tension. But it happens only in certain positions. #4, lock action similar to #2 except requires about 90 degrees (1/4) turn. It locks frozen solid.

Operationally, #2 and #3 levers are much close to base of string clamp therefore making the double action a fraction of a second quicker. However if you use 2 hands like I do, one hand for string clamp and other for base clamp, it makes no difference.

I believe Gamma only has two types of bases now:

Quick Action Swivel Clamp Bases

and

Super Quick Switch Action cam-lock swivel clamps.

Neither of which are cone locks.

My understanding of the operation of the Quick Action Swivel Clamp Bases is that they are friction type of lock. Meaning a treaded rod on the bottom of the lever tightens into a block under/inside the turntable and the friction due to tightening the system when you rotate the lever prevents the clamp base from moving.

The Super Quick action type (like on my 6004) have some sort of over-center mechanism (cam, etc) that lock them in place.... Haven't taken them apart yet to figure out how they work.

This was the last post by that user and it has been almost two years ago he posted it. Do you think he is going to answer?

Ahh yet another case of someone not paying attention...

How goes the new machine Rich ? Do you find the wise to operate any better off the crank setup instead of our mackdaddyhookupSETUP?

I like it a lot, you save a TON of time with spring action bases.....

The Wise works great with the 6004. I got the adapter that lifts the tensioner so that it is a straight pull thru the grommets...... just like our Mac Daddy adapter.... no issues at all...... lovin' it!
