Gamma Tech - Gamma 4000

Bret,

I talked to you on the phone the other day about a used stringing machine - thanks for calling back so quickly. There is an auction on **** for a used Gamma 4000 that looks to be in decent condition. Are there still parts available for machine? Is the crank compatible with newer Gamma crank machines? Do you know if Neos clamps are compatible with the glide bars on the gamma 4000?

Thanks,
Carl

The machine on e-bay looks complete to me. The part that Gamma does not have a replacement for is the C-clamp that clamps the frame at the throat.

The one in the auction has the top clamp for both conventional width frames and widebody frames which is good.

Bret at Gamma said that the Neos clamps don't work for the Gamma glide bar machines (too short or the base diameter isn't the same - can't remember). To get replacement clamps he suggested that you get the Gamma 6000 glide bar clamps that are longer than the ones that fit the 4000s, but they do work.

I'm sure Bret will chime in soon as he's very good at communicating on this board.....

I tried finding the auction but i couldn't. We do have some parts for the 4000 (& 6000) that are left in our warehouse, but we aren't able to order more. the main parts we don't have are the tensioners, tennis clamps & the c-clamp for the throat. I would have to check if a new tensioner would fit on a 4000 machine. a new STII tensioner is $350. We do have 6000 tennis clamps that are 1/2" taller, most of the time i think they work fine. I honestly think every person i've spoken with over the last 7.5 yrs has nothing but great thinks to say about the 4000 & 6000, just have to keep in mind that sometime sooner than later we won't have parts for them.

You didn't find the auction because the seller can't spell Gamma - it's listed as GAMA 4000.

I currently have an older model upright czech sports tru-ten machine that I can't get parts for. I'm pretty handy and have made a couple repairs myself. I used to work at a tennis club and teach lessons and string full-time on Ektelon H and Babolat Star, but now I'm a high school teacher and coach. I'm in the market for a used crank machine, but I can be patient until the right one comes along.

I passed on a local gamma X-ES with a stand for $450, because I'd rather have a crank for use in parking lots, etc, but now I'm second guessing myself - that was a pretty good buy.
