Gamma Zyex in hybrid?

Ruuzo

Rookie
i'm a big fan of zyex strings (used ashaway dynamite quite a bit) but i'm feeling the need to tone down the trampoline effect...i have some gamma zyex that i want to hybrid with synthetic gut crosses, but i'm concerned that with the massive tension drop you're supposed to string zyex strings with (for ashaway dynamite it is 20%, don't know what is recommended for gamma zyex) it will damage the frame to have the mains and crosses so far apart in tension...

does anyone have any experience with zyex in hybrids? any tension suggestions to avoid damaging the frame? with multifilaments i string at 51 pounds in a pro kennex ki 10 pse...

thanks for any responses

I'm afraid I can't help you with your question - sorry. But I would like to ask you to say more about your experience with Zyex. How does it compare with multifilaments (and can you name the multi for reference)? Can you describe the trampoline effect you mentioned?

Thanks in advance!

I use Klipper Zyex multi. My favorite multi. I use it in full and hybrid setup. However, I'm unsure if this string is similar to Gamma Zyex. If it is, then I can comment. Let me know.

you know how gut really feels like it cups the ball and shoots it out, and has great power?...zyex is like this, but the cupping and trampoline effect is even more pronounced - so it is very powerful, and somewhat hard to control...but hits a very heavy ball. i feel like the high-end multifilaments (tecnifibre x-1 biphase, klip excellerator come to mind) try to simulate a gut-like feel, zyex is gut-like feel taken maybe a little too far...

thats why i'm thinking of hybriding, to try to tone down the trampoline and bring it more in line with gut and the high-end multis...that is the hope anyway.

i have a feeling it is similar, since it features "zyex" prominently in the name - could you let us know your thoughts on it? what tensions you've tried it at and what they were like? and what hybrid setups?

thanks!!

I usually hybrid the zyex with poly mains in my n90. My favorite hybrid with zyex is with pro supex big ace mains. Mains are at 52lbs, zyex crosses are at 56lbs.

Regardless of poly mains I use, the zyex consistently helps keep the comfort and playability at a high level until they break after 10hrs. Before they snap the sleeve will break and the inner fiber will be exposed and maintain acceptable playability until the last moment of its life. Stringsavers would obviously prolong the multi's life and works well.

The klipper zyex is also the most durable multi I have used. I would routinely break synguts and other multis in a ProStaff 6.1 classic under 3hrs. On using a full zyex string job I could get over 10hrs of excellent playability before snapping the mains.

The feel and spin from all areas of the court is excellent. For me it is not over powerful, like Pacific ToughGut nat gut or underpowered, like a poly. The comfort and playability exceeds any fresh syngut I have ever used.
