SINGAPORE - After a season that has seen her reach her first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, win the biggest title of her career in Beijing and qualify for her first WTA Finals, Garbiñe Muguruza has hit a brand new career-high on the WTA Rankings this week, passing Maria Sharapova for World No.3.

I haven't watched any of the WTA Finals yet, forgot about it honestly. How has it been? And what does the future hold for Garbine?

Well you know the WTA is a Mug's game when Muggy is #3.
Grand slam final, 2 slam QFs, in a small group of players to have defeated Serena at a slam, Premier 5 final, Premier mandatory title (the latter 2 were in consecutive weeks). Also has an accomplished doubles career, playing both singles and doubles at the WTA finals. 13 top 10 wins (8 of which were this year).
I think you're the mug :)

Muguruza is one of the few players that could match Serena in power. She has a strong serve, strong strokes, and high confidence. She is error-prone however and her movement is a liability. She reminds me of Lindsey Davenport but more cuter.

I could see Muguruza contending for number 1 next year and beyond.

At 6 foot and 1 hundred 61 pounds, she is big. Power should be no problem. However, with that much weight her movement is slow. Reminds me of
Raonic, she walks just like him between points. If she can control her weight and even slim down I think she has a great future. If she gains more
weight she get slower.

I second what mbm0912 said. She's the type I can get behind too. On top of also. Underneath as well.

Nothing impresses you.

Planning to join the ATP or the WTA to show us what a world no #3 Tennis player should be like?
What is your problem? I said I feel there are better players than her like Sharapova, Kvitova or Azarenka but it just doesn't show in the rankings. The same way Berdych doesn't feel like the world no 5 to me.

Well OP did ask how the WTA Finals are so far....Maria(2-0) had a 3 hr shake off the rust match with Aga that she won, followed by a straight set win over Halep(1-1) today, where at one point she won 5 games straight. Both Simona and Maria played entertaining points that had them both covering the whole court, even net exchanges! Maria seems to be playing with the confidence of someone who realizes SERENA IS NOT THERE!

Petra (0-1) and Angie(1-0) was entertaining, at one point it looked like Kvitova was going to flip the switch after a 4-6 first set, when she raced out to a 4-1 second set lead, only to go all "Petra" and blow the lead to lose is straights.

Muggy looking really confident at 1-0. Lucie(0-1) and Aga (0-2) not so fresh....Flavia hanging in there at 1-1.

At this point, as far as form looks, Maria vs Muggy seems realistic. As far as pure looks Maria looks lean and runway model like...so CHAMPION!;)

My only real issue with Garbine is the acne on her face. Such a shame. There are a few girls like that around in the WTA.

Muguruza has atp style strokes, its not so much her power that is incredible but the topspin she gets compared to every flat hitting female.

watching her practice live and play live, she has the potential to be a multi slam winner, she has gears 1 and 7, she just needs to know when she should not go for a winner, and when she should go for more than a lob

sharapova has barely any spin, serena already knows how high it will bounce which is why she can tee off on 70 mph forehands, a linear ball path does nothing if you cant get them out of position. a parabolic ball path will not be able to be teed off even if its slower.

plus sharapova has a flat and slicyflat serve, muguruza has a kick and a slice as well

Carbine IS getting better and better, hope that continues. I have been following her career for a while and cheering for her. So much fun that has been! Hope she beats Serena in a close match end of next year. Serena is her tennis idol, it would be epic! Still I hope Serena gets many more weeks as n1 and more slams though

What's so suprising? Muguruza has nothing on Azarenka if Azarenka gets to her old level again.
It feels like it's been at least 3 years since we've seen Vika at her old level. She's had chances to breakthrough again this year but failed at each hurdle. Muguruza currently has a lot on Azarenka and is the far better player.

Her boobs are strangely saggy for such a young non-mother

But she has nice legs and seems to have a nice personality. WTA is a joke but I hope she can push off Serena.

Those pics of her with acne were recent or older? I see some pics and her face doesnt look anything like that. Teenage girl with acne is a bit of stretch on critque, it goes away.

I enjoy watching her play, when she wins she is appreiciative, does act entitled and talk about how bad she played, very gracious.

Good looking girl, i may still have that one of her returning serve as a bookmark :)

I agree. Garbine is cute and has good firepower in her shots, but her movement lets her down big time. At the same height, Vika has much, much better movement and footwork.. But yeah, getting back her old level seems to be a hurdle at the moment. She just isn't the same player as she used to be since the injury.

Don't know how old the pic is but that's what her face still looks like in reality.. She may have better days I guess. Photos can't be trusted, in the age of Photoshop and whatever else. You can see it very well on video.

She's 22. I doubt it's age related.

I love Garbine <3
She is special. Tennis needs a personality like that. She has this warmth over her personality. She is strong too! Something extra about her other players lack now besides Serena.
And she is getting better and better, improving.
Hope she stays without any major injuries and continues the hard work so we have her for many years to come.

Davenport's movement was a problem, with her near hyper-extended knees. She really had to make up for it in other ways. I've seen her practice, and Muguruza may not be a dancer out there, but she's a more natural mover.

I could see Muguruza contending for number 1 next year and beyond.
True enough. I thought her Wimbledon run was a revelation, and she's not a flash in the pan. She's could take greater advantage of her height and reach by improving her net game against many who pull the "what the--?" face if they come anywhere near it.

What's so suprising? Muguruza has nothing on Azarenka if Azarenka gets to her old level again.
I agree for now. Some love to attack Vika, but her 2015 at Wimbledon, FO and USO were fantastic displays of her many levels of talent--and this is while she's on the comeback trail. When she's anywhere close to 100%, she is a force that cannot be ignored. How today's Muguruza (who has come into her own) would handle a near 100% Vika would be anyone's guess--other than a serious battle.
