Nadal is certainly the worst matchup for Gasquet. Gasquet is seldom comfortable against Nadal, even with his favourite backhand shot.

If you wish to write in decent literary style, you should indicate the omission of the end of a quoted sentence via the use of ellipsis. For example: 'For me, Nadal is the greatest player of all time . . .'

In this case, the omission of the end of the sentence seems a dubious choice in any case when it only included three additional words: '. . . with (Roger) Federer.'

First Sharapova, and now Gasquet. More and more players voicing their opinion on the GOAT debate. Nadal just needs to win 2-3 more Slams and more players will come out in his support.

There’s some bias in his judgement. He obviously has to choose as GOAT the guy with whom his H2H is 0-16 compared to the one against it’s 2-17.

Not a bad choice, Nadal can be called best ever, comparatively, figuratively, relatively, and other superlatively. No problems :)

Just not the opposite of superlatively, which would be generally.

Generally speaking, at least at this moment, it’s the other guy that the best ever.

For quite a lot of followers over the decades of the sport, Laver is the best ever, then for some Borg, and then Pete, and then Fed, and now Nadal too. It is fine even if Nadal does not win another slam, but he can be called the best ever. You want to call the other guy best ever, no problems.

Right.

I was speaking generally.

It’s a great way of saying things without going through all the hassle of proving whatever it is you’re saying.

Now you’ve gone and poked specific holes in what I was generally saying.

Superlatively and/or generally, all these guys can be the best ever so what we’re left with in the end is Gasquet, possibly, may have been on coke again when he said it.

Post Script
This all assumed Gasquet said it in the first place which didn’t quite happen.

Superlatively, generally, specifically and possibly, if there is someone looking for a high here, we all can guess at who that person is.

Except Gasquet said Nadal and Federer were equal.

But I quite like the reasons Sharapova gives for saying Nadal is GOAT. She says it's not about the numbers, it's about liking how he goes about the game. If we all looked at the GOAT question like this, that ultimately it's about your own opinion and your own feelings we would all have more relaxed and civilized debates about it.

I was just messing with you guys (Fed hardcore fans) with my post. Even if they really meant it, they are entitled to their opinion.

Maria seems to admire Rafa a lot for his dedication and professionalism, and the way he has bounced back to the top after two poor seasons in 2015 and 2016 when even some past tennis greats had said that he was done.

And Gasquet, no matter how hard he tries, he just doesn't hurt Nadal much. That most likely influences his opinion.

In the end, it's about the numbers. Let's not kid ourselves into thinking it's anything else. Federer has everyone in the Open Era beat in numbers. Also, helps that he is one of the most popular players ever in sports.

Suri great clickbait. He actually said this "'For me, Nadal is the greatest player of all time with (Roger) Federer"

It's suresh only, guys. What do you expect ?

He's sitting back having a big laugh while devouring his 12th gulab jamun.

Yet, if someone hailed Roger as the greatest, they'd be attacking him, and demanded he be guillotined for crimes against mankind. LOL.

What does Nadal need to do to be closer? Beat Fed another 23 times?
The real question is : what does suresh need to finally be satisfied and stop creating silly threads that even someone half his age (53 years) would be ashamed of creating :D

He's probably kicking back laughing at how easily we are manipulated. You think posters actually have free will over what they post here? Wrong. It was already pre-determined who and what would be posted the moment this thread began. Including this post.

He is.

I think when Nadal says ''Federer is the best'' he means he himself is the best, since he has dominated him since young age, and 2003-07's AO/UO/WI titles don't mean much.

Even if this wasn't a troll thread and Gasquet said Nadal is the best ever, so what? It's a valid opinion.

I personally don't think Nadal is the GOAT (and am not a fan of his and absolutely can't stand 99% of his nutty fanbase) but it's stupid to think that there aren't people out there in the tennis world (whether they're players, fans or coaches) who believe he's the best or the greatest ever.

Most of his fans believe he's the GOAT because of the H2H. They just want the slam record to back it up because it's odd for your "pigeon" to achieve more than you, right?

Gasquet and anyone else can have their opinion. But during or immediately after the AO, Gasquet said Federer was the "best in history." He talked about their Hopman cup match and how he knew Federer had a chance to win AO17, so he wasn't too surprised when he won.

Yeah, this thread is still a troll thread.

Well good for them then (I personally don't put stock into H2H whatosever given how selective he's always been about where and when he's playing his rivals) but really my point is not whether Gasquet specifically believes Nadal is the GOAT but that comparing all-time tennis legends isn't exact science (especially considering all the drastic changes tennis went through even in recent past), it ain't just a comparison between numbers, they're just a starting point of sorts. I think Sharapova actually put it rather well recently in her interview on why she said Nadal is the greatest for her.

I know when it comes to myself, Nadal could win half a dozen more slams against the clowns that now populate ATP and I certainly wouldn't consider him better than Fed (or Pete and Borg for that matter). Slam count is an important metric today but looking at tennis in historic terms it hardly tells the whole story.

P.S. Every suresh thread is a troll thread, they just differ in quality.

I guess it's a case of "to each their own." Some of the reasons I have heard from VB why Federer can't be GOAT include: he skips clay now, and Nadal beat him at Wimbledon but Federer never beat him at RG.

Weirdly, some of them still talk about weak era. Considering the current era, I am not sure what to make of that/them.

Simple, it's just Nadal fans being Nadal fans.Same how it's justified for them to constantly crap on Fed and his achievements because he's so arrogant and represents the elite (in their minds) but start crying oppression when Gestapo Fed fans are doing the same. It's like some weird anti-establishment hippie persecution complex even though they're on the bandwagon of at this point the second most prolific player of Open Era who removes umpire from his matches who don't comply with his time wasting antics.

Fed is so extremely lucky because he dominated a pre-big 3 weak era (that Rafa himself was a part of albeit in his diapers and a pacifier) and has favourable court scheduling but Nadal is not lucky for having surfaces and draws tailored to him for a decade now and facing zero opposition from younger players.

What they don't realize is that everyone's career can be torn down really if one wants to. I'm sure Lendl (who unlike Humbalito was a monster on fast indoor carpet) would love slow high bouncing grass of today for example instead of having to completely change his playstyle to go deep.

Don't speak for most of the Nadal fanbase please. Most of us were happy with his epicness and acheivements a decade ago, let alone now. Dude is definitely top 3 all time, that's more than enough. He has won the French TEN TIMES. We're too used to how good he is, and forget how INSANELY HARD that is to do. He may win it for the 11th time this week, and that alone is infathomable, nevermind his other acheivements. He may not be the GOAT, but he damn sure isn't as far from it as Maestronians would love to pretend.
