Here's how:

Taking his fourth round and second round appearances in US and French Open 2006, he will gain 2800 points when he wins French Open, Wimbledon and US Open in 2007.

Add to that four ATP master series and one year ending tennis masters. Now since he made the final of Montreal masters last year he will gain only 150 points when he wins it this time. As for the other three masters, he will gain 1450 points points due to his first and second round exits last year.

In the year ending masters which he will automatically be qualified when he wins all the above, he can be the undefeated champion and gain 750 points.

Here's the total:

Grandslams : 2800 points
Masters series: 1550 points
Tennis masters: 750 points

Total : 5100 points.

Ofcourse he won't have any problems defending his Nottingham, Lyon and Gstaad titles. Add this to his current 1900 points, which gives 7000 points. While Federer will lose more than a thousand points when Richard achieves this and makes Gasquet the new no.1 in 2007.

Hail Gasquet!

I think Donald Young will be #1. Federer wont stay young forever

*(OK, that was sarcastic, in case anyone mistakes it as serious, just making fun of the Djokovic next @1 threads and all the offshoots)

Yeah there's a better chance that I become a professional chess player than Gasquet winning the rest of the 3 GS, 4Masters, the masters at the end, and leaving federer behind in the ranking as he would take no.1
And I don't even play chess...

I don't think anyone should take this post seriously..plus hypothetically speaking if all goes according to his post...gasquet will be #1...however unlikely the probability...it's better than seeing Fed and Nad fans feud =P

i am just surprized you went through all the trouble of calculating points...for something that will not happen...

I give you respect for your dedication to Gasquet though...I am sure many of the posters here wish he that he will live up to his potential, as tennis fans...

No.1 or not I still enjoy watching his tennis. Atleast till the first two sets.

as stupid as the original post is, i am a huge gasquet fan so i would hope for everything he said to happen. not that it will but still, it would be awesome if it would.

haha this to funny nadal, federer, djokovic, murray, bagdhatis all have to retire before gasquet even has a chance of being number 1

Ever notice that all ******** and provoking threads are started by 'new users'? What do you think that implies?

Oh Chess is a fascinating game. It gets boring after a while so I only play coupla times a year but those few hours are fantabulous. You should try it and don't worry about learning it if you have a good partner who will tell you the rules as you play.

I agree. It could happen if all those predictions come true. IF Gasquet wins all those tourneys mentioned, then he should be no. 1.

honestly I'm a gungho Gasquet fan but I really doubt this would happen. I mean Gasquet would have to hire an assassin to kill the top 8 players to be number 1..

What a dumb thread. The same could be said for a bunch of other ATP players who don't even have a chance at becoming number 1 by the end of the year. Must be a troll creating this thread as I doubt anyone would post this thread seriously.

Indeed. I played a few times, sometimes with my dad, and sometimes with those cocky (nerdish) people at school that practice beating people in five moves. Maybe some day, but I do agree that it gets very boring after you play a few matches in a week or so.

Sure, Gasquet can end 2007 as the number 1 player ... of France

I thought I have a chance to finish number one

If I turn pro and play every tournament that I can, and win all of them I can be number one this year.

And then If I win every match, play every week, win every tournament for 10 years in a row, I can be the undisputed GOAT. This means 9 Grand Slams 38 majors, untold Master Shields, 9 Davis Cup for the US, 2 Olympic Gold.

This is too easy! I'm getting bored. Better get back to pick lint from my navel.

Ciao!

Leaving aside OP's futile calculations, Gasquet has been a bit disappointing.
On the surface, he seems to really be the guy who does the least with the most talent. But on closer inspection he has a fairly weak serve and forehand for a top 20 ATP player. His movement, backhand and court sense are ridiculously good which create the illusion that he is a future #1.

it's not gonna happen.

He can, but will he? ;)

That said, my newborn nephew will be a future #1. in 20 yrs you will be debating if he's the GOAT.

I can't tell you his name...he hasn't been named yet. :p

Breaking News

French tennis star Richard Gasquet has just announced his immediate severence of all ties with his current racquet company, Head, and has signed an immediately effective contract with Wilson to play with their new [K] Factor KSix-One Tour 90. Our very own TalkingTennis91 was there to listen to Gasquet's speech.

"I felt that I was having too easy a time hitting my groundstrokes, and that volleying was not challenging enough to me. I've been ridiculed for quite some time now about using my current Liquidmetal Instinct XL racquet, because its head is too large, and there is too much of a sweetspot. With my newfound relationship with Wilson, I hope to trash my net game and make my groundstrokes more difficult. I believe that by doing this, I can become the #1 player by the year's end. Thank you."

Disclaimer

To any and all PS 85, PS 90, nCode 90, or K90 users out there, I meant no offense to any of you. I was only having a bit of fun with this thread, and I know that all of you use your mid-size racquets well.
