Gasquet doesn't like watching Novak v Murray

I thought this article was funny.

Funny quote:

"You already know you are going to see the same shots over and over. Left and then right, back and forth. There is no clash of styles and no creativity".

I know this has been discussed a few times on here. Guess some players feel the same way.

I 100% agree. Djokovic vs. Murray are utter snoozefests. Those matches are just physical contests. They can play very differently but choose to go into robotic vacuum cleaner tennis.

Pong with a Murray implosion at the end..

Though their US Open encounter last year wasn't as boring as Murray was playing so damn aggressive then was out of steam.

When Murray plays aggressive,it is fun. Unfortunately, he's not been able to sustain it against Djokovic.

I like most of their matches. Absolutely hated the W2013 match, that was reaaally boring, the surface might have something to do with it. This year's AO was pretty entertaining, with the bagel to end it. Also liked their IW (or was it miami?) encounter this year.

I feel the same as Gasquet ....Dj vs Murray is like watching someone play a stiffer, slightly less talented clone of themselves for four hours.

You only like the matches Murray loses in?. You're a bad man :)

I'm not sure which has shocked me more: his admission that he doesn't like Murray v Djokovic matches or his insistence that he isn't gay? :)

I'd also be interested to know what he thinks of Murray v Gasquet matches but he didn't make any mention of them!

Who likes this matchup anyway? These days you can predict score with accurate number of games for loser. So predictable.

So what are you saying? That non-pros on an anonymous message board have the right to assess the playing of pros, but a guy who's been out there for several years as a legitimate pro player has no right to make any kind of assessment of their play? Odd.

Edit: oh you deleted your comment about him dissing players - that was the part I was responding to

That's pretty funny but low & expected from a Murray fan. :-)

Just a lighthearted response (notice the smilies)! :)

But in all seriousness, I think you're wrong. Active tennis pros should refrain from criticising their fellow pros or the way they play especially when they have a losing H2H towards them! Gasquet would be better saving these kind of comments for his memoirs and not while he is still an active player!

Non-pros on tennis boards like ourselves are free to make whatever silly remarks we like because it is just a tennis message board and does no harm to anyone but ourselves. We are not the ones playing the tour and taking potshots at our working colleagues!

^^C'mon. Gasquet doesn't give the best interviews and he finally said some things that are interesting and true.

In fact tennis players give the most generic answers on whole than any athletes and this is why Gulbis has a fan base.

If there's no creativity and they're both so predictable why can't Gas-bag beat either of em?

Respectfully I disagree. Although Murray is on a losing streak he has the skill level to beat Djoker if he plays his best and just needs to keep his cool. That said the WAY they win against each other is a bit repetitive and exhausting. I like pretty, technically smooth tennis so I don't mind it but can see how others might be bored.

Why? He's not saying they don't know how to play tennis or that they suck:confused: He's merely making a judgement about the entertainment of their match-up..

he needs then to do it now, that would be the best proof that he can beat Novak, right now that Novak is on all cylinders, vying for the roland garros trophy...

I just think it's better if an active player refrains from criticising another active player in any way unless that player has done something personally to offend him (or her). It might be wiser too as such negative comments might galvanise either player to come gunning for him the next time they meet!

IMO best to save your thoughts and comments for retirement when you can safely speak freely! :)

To each their own. I have enjoyed most of the encounters they have had over the years.

AO 2013 was pretty bad, despite being a GS final I think I gave up on it. I think Roddick tweeted something about slow surfaces when it was on too.

I agree 100% with Gasquet.

Double standards much?

Lol, nice one.

OT: Gasquet is just speaking his mind and I too agree that majority of their clashes is just repetitive baseline bashing but Novak is clearly superior and wins the greater amount of duels.

"I decided rather to concentrate on the game and the tactics rather than the work in the gym. Sometimes I lacked of self confidence." - Gasquet

I've always wondered why players like Gasquet hasn't achieved more with their talents. What Gasquet said here gave me a clue. It takes muscle, brain, and heart to make a great tennis player, in that order. Gasquet didn't get it and tried to focus only on his brain, and didn't even go very far with that.

It's therefore no wonder that he is largely a spectator sitting on his couch when it comes to top level tennis, with all right to his own opinion.

I agree 100% with Gasquet.

None at all! Read what I said earlier:

"I just think it's better if an active player refrains from criticising another active player in any way unless that player has done something personally to offend him (or her)....."

Rosol personally assaulted Murray with his shoulder charge so it was perfectly understandable that he would react although I agree he should not have said what he said in public!

Understand the difference?

Haha don't be a whiner, that was nothing.

Because @Mainad is Judy... or Kim?

As others said, pros get ripped for being too boring and corporate; then one says something may fans (who pay the bills!) believe - tennis is becoming too repetitive; tall, thin guys with 2HBH's hitting the ball back and forth from the baseline with very similar strokes - and @Mainad and a few others get grumpy because he named their favorite.

I actually like prefer long rallies.

Serve, return, and volley.....point over doesn't appeal to me. Its nice to see once in a while but I prefer the rallies.

Gasquet is a hundred percent on the mark with these comments. It's the worst styles match up in the sport today. It's like watching a WTA match.

Yes just what we Reechard another Nadal Gasquet SEMI FINAL at the US Open. LMAO. Murray Djokovic have had some great matches. AO 2012 SF was mind blowing ball striking.

Gasquet is such a hater. Basically, he's mad because he didn't spend enough time in the gym and "focused on his game". Lol. Seriously Gasquet, do you even lift?

HA! I actually know for a fact, friend showed me on his phone footage of the French guys living it up at night during the US Open. The year he made the semis. Joie de vivre.

No I can't imagine Gasquet hitting the weights or going gluten free.
I can't imagine Sampras, Nadal or Djoker partying during a slam.

Are you for real? Any WTA players who tried to play a match like Djokovic and Murray would be dead from exhaustion within half an hour! :)

R. Gasquet is still around? Cool! (haven't been following the game lately. Too busy looking for a job.:()

serve return volley? That is atleast 15 years ago Flint(unfortunately) I dont mind long rallies as long as there is some kind of thought and creativity and touch there.. Not all power grinding like now. Also i would rather see points end quickly with quality than grinding without. Different tastes i guess, you must have had a blast watching tennis the last 15 years, i hardly watch anymore..

It is safe to say that neither Murray nor Djokovic give much thought to what Gasquet's matches look like. Probably because they cant find them on TV.

LOLLLL

When I read the title "Gasquet doesn't like watching Novak v Murray ", I got serious doubt about Gasquet's orientations for a moment !!

then I realized, the point was something else ! loll

World is not yet ready for 2 greatest and most interesting players in tennis: Xavier Malisse and Richard Gasquet. That's why we have to watch bums like Novak and Andy.

The worst matchup entertainment wise among the big 4 for me personally, though they've had some good matches ....
